They gave up 322 yards a game with 5.22 yards a play. They gave up 17 points a game. Yes, not bad at all but compared to Bama's last year and the development of players that have been in a system and have had significant playing time I don't see Michigan being able to do much against our D. Now as far their D goes, like I said not bad, but I have also stated that you're going to see an offense at Bama that may seem similar but is going to have a lot of different looks to it.

What makes Alabama's defense so good and remain good is that when someone like Barron and Hightower leave they have rotational starters that take a higher role and more packages and a young guy comes up and follows role

this. Sunseri is taking Barron's role. Landon Collins is coming up to take Sunseri's old role. Milliner is taking Kirkpatrick's old role. Belue is taking Milliner's old role, and so on and so on. Although I think its a little bit different at LB because in the past we've had guys like Donta Hightower that played a lot of different roles on the D. For instance, he could be lined up at the will or the mike, or he might be on the line with his hand in the dirt. I think this year, all of those roles will still be on the team, but they arent likely to all be filled by the same guy.

the role I really am ready to see comeback is the Javy Arenas defensive role. that dude was an assassin on the corner blitz (much like what lsu loved to do last year with mathieu or brooks). the coaches had menzie in that role for a bit but i think it kinda lost favor among the staff because Menzie wasnt near as effective as Javy. but i think this year either, HaHa, Collins, or Sunseri will play that role a good bit.

Actually very good considering where they were at in 2010.

That wasn't so hard now, was it?

I'll say this again, for the third time, so you can be sure to see it: I expect Michigan's defense to keep it close, a lot like the Penn State vs Bama game last year, BUT BAMA WILL WIN IN THE END.

that penn state defense was pretty good though. plus they had played us the year before and they knew exactly what kind of fight they were getting into, and they still got whooped by a fledgling McCarron.

The reason PSU was able to keep it close was they had a really good DL. They were able to stop the run in the first half. Michigan wont be able to do that. It will be much closer to the Bama-MSU game.

The change in the Michigan D last year (with Rich Rod recruited kids) held top 20 running Nebraska with a jitterbug qb and bad arse whiteboy tailback Rex Burkhead in check

I sat first row right behind PSU's bench. Still had to have 5 inches and 50-75 lbs on Vlachos.

ETA: Michigan will have William Campbell, who was a 5 star, but has been a bust so far. It didn't help that RR tried to turn him into a RT.

Nebraska ran a run option that Michigan held in check something they could not due under Carr and DC Ron English

Alabama will likely have the number 1 Defense again.

Whereas that was the case last year, (maybe the best defense I've ever seen in college), I don't agree with that this year. Just too much top notch talent lost. I know the guys recruited after them are studs, but they're young and inexperienced. It takes time.

(This is not a knock. You'll still have an upper echelon defense.)

English did a better job. Herman was the one who couldn't stop the option.

Even in 10 when everyone says our D was so bad, we still had the best D in the conference.
