Just glad to have a civil thread.

Or any other civil LSU...
What had your running game been like this year? Inside/outside the tackles? Passing to the backs? Designed qb runs or improv? I'm curious how you expect O and E to attack our defense.

We've actually been very food running the ball this year. We've averaged about 5.5 YPC in Qtrs 1-3 and about 4.0 in the 4th (which kind of explains itself).
We haven't been very explosive, but we've been extremely consistent in getting 3-12 yards a pop.
It took the OL a few weeks to really get comfortable in a true passing oriented RPO scheme, but after about the A&M game they really started moving people. We ran the ball really well against a very solid Missouri front 7.
Our run offense has kind of been ignored all year and slightly trashed by our own fans, but it's been very good most of the year and pretty scary the last month. I expect us to use it quite often (depending on RPO reads) on Saturday like Georgia did early.

The pass to run ratio will be close to even. Which is little less than what Bama has been doing on the run side. 60-40 .
The reason Bama fans think we've passed more is due to the insane total yardage . The YPC that Tua and the WRs have put up are outstanding. It seems like we've passed more but if look at all the box scores (TAMU is the outlier passed more than ran) Bama has on average run 45 plays and passed @30 plays per game.
Some of the numbers are skewed a little due the huge leads and Bama basically running out the clock the entire 2nd half of most games. This game we will need to keep the offense opened up longer so the ratio will be Closer to 50-50
I feel Jacobs will get the start at RB. He has been playing very well and is a little quicker than both the Harris. We will need that due to the athleticism of the LSu defense. All of the 3 are high quality SEC backs.

One would think Clyde Edwards helaire would run stretch plays or outside zone while brosette ran more inside zone and lead plays, but there is no preference there. We seem to like to feed the hot hand. Edwards helaire is our shiftiest back, and isn’t easy to tackle in open space. He runs very very aggressively. Brossette lacks top end speed, but has solid vision, he can anticipate holes and attack them quickly enough.
Chris curry/lanard fournette would be 3 and 4. Curry is a power runner, but hasn’t been given much opportunity to shine. Fournette’s game is catching out of the backfield, and I’m hoping we get him more involved with screens, flairs, and wheels.
Our offense line gets some flack for pass blocking, but they excel in run blocking starting up front. Cushenberry, a former 3 star late class addition has really come into his own, and has a knack for being able to get to the second level on his blocks.
Garrett brumfield a 5th year senior should be returning from injury this week and he’s to keep an eye on. If he can explode out of his stance as usual, he’ll be plenty fine. If not, chasen Hines a true freshmen has done enough to show he is more than capable.
Charles at LT seems to be one of our more athletic linemen and does a good enough job.
Deculus and Magee definitely need to find their way in pass blocking.
LSU hasn’t been as good as I would have liked at checking down or throwing screens to the running backs. One of the keys to this game for us in my opinion is allowing your defense to be aggressive and throwing screens to soften that up.
We will definitely run the ball, and do so aggressively. 4th and 1? Watch for Edwards helaire in there. The first person usually misses the tackle on him.
The only qb designed run I’ve seen LSU run is a QB lead. Burrow isn’t slow, but he’s not a burner. Defenses haven’t respected his running ability and it has come back to bite them. I don’t expect that to happen with bama.
He runs a mean zone read though. He may only keep it once, but when he does watch out
Overall, I expect LSU to come out running first. We’re gonna test the matchup of the trenches. From there, I would hope to see us take a deep shot to keep your dbs on their toes. Then more running to set up the screen.
I do think you’re going to see a lot of slant routes to Sullivan, a 6’7” wr to build burrows confidence up

I'm hoping he doesn't break Moses'ankles again.

What position are they playing?

I've seen him make some good runs. And he runs it fearless. But i figured it was more improv after good coverage.

I think if we featured our running game, and depended on it like we used to, it would be as good as ever. The talent is there on the line and at RB.
But, so far this year, we haven't relied on it much. I don't know if that's something they'll be able to just switch on when they need it or not. Something tells me it would take a few games.
But, it's been good, even if not eye-popping.
As far as the starter or best back, it doesn't matter. It's been different in different games. Damien is probably the guy Saban would call the starter, but Jacobs is probably just as good, and Najee has as many or more carries than anyone.

Jacobs is the key in my opinion. Good running back who can also block and catch the ball out of the back field. Not say d. Harris can't do the same stuff

Well as of late, Nyjee has started and then Damien has been rotating in
Has he? I thought Jacobs has started the last couple of games

Yeah, I don't know what he's talking about. Najee hasn't started a single game.

I honestly expect more quick slants to Big Irv and the boys to start the game rather than going vertical.
Saban always plays this game tight.

Damien likely gets the start but don't be shocked if Josh Jacobs doesn't start. He is a Sproyles type back with the ball in his hands. He is a matchup nightmare! He can split out and give us a 5 wide look or lineup beside Tua or behind him in pistol and take any handoff. Najee is more of a bruising type of back that hasn't shown break away speed.
A&M caused problems up front, but we torched them through the air.
I don't see much change to our gameplan. Start fast with play action or an RPO. I wouldn't be surprised to see a sluggo route on an RPO instead of the quick slant. It will either be a TD or LSU gets called for a PI. Jerry Jeudy is decpetively fast and a long strider. Ruggs, Waddle, D Smith, and TE Irv Smith can't be ignored. Irv Smith could have a HUGE game if the LSU secondary can slow down the outside guys.

Brumfield and Hines both play left guard. My apologies.
Your assumption on most of his 8-15 yard runs as improv on good coverage is correct. However, the big runs of 20 plus typically come off of a read option. If that kind of play happens, it won’t be early.

It'll depend on how your defense tries to play Alabama. If you bring in extra DBs, we'll run it at you (by the way, Jacobs is out #1 RB at this time) until you make adjustments. If you bring you LBs in we'll throw it on you. I realize that y'all have an excellent secondary, but unless you can line up and man-to-man cover ALL our wide receives including our TE and slot back, Tua's gonna take your lunch money. He can go through the progressions and see ALL the potential receivers...something we've never had before.
Bottom line, if your guys can come out and beat this Alabama team, I'll be the FIRST Bama guy on this board to congratulate you, but I don't honestly see any football team not playing on Sundays, that can hang with Alabama for 60 minutes.
And on top of this, don't be surprised to see the "old" Alabama style of defense out there on Saturday. They've been stung by criticism from the Alabama folks and their manhood has been called into question...they're coming to Baton Rouge in a really bad mood.
We'll see how all this plays out in about 48 hours, so here's to a well played football game!

Alabama's RBs have been able to get a good amount of passes thrown accurately to them in the flats.
Bama RBs will catch alot of passes against LSU I think.

Have you even watched a game? Jacobs has started the last two and najee has yet to start a game.
