Bama fans- Getting to Tuscaloosa from Birmingham

We've got a group staying in Birmingham for the game next weekend and are trying to figure out the best way to get to Tuscaloosa before the game and then back to Birmingham afterward without driving our cars.
We looked at using the Rally Bus, but we were wanting to get to campus earlier to tailgate than when it drops off. We also looked at renting a party bus, but that entails recruiting enough people and it's somewhat pricey. Uber surge charges to get back postgame so that's probably out of the picture.
Basically, is there some type of game day shuttle or recommendation on how to get to campus and back to Birmingham on the same day?

Stay in Starkville, and i'm sure someone out on the farm will take in to TVille on horseback.

I got nothing for you man, sorry about that. We generally drive down early and then drive back, as do most folks I know.
I'd think your best option would probably just be to splurge on the party bus if you can't find 1 sober driver in the group to rely on.

If youre coming from Louisiana why didnt you stay in Meridian?

The traffic leaving games toward Birmingham has improved dramatically over the last few seasons. UA has done a great job with gameday routes.

Most of the group are LSU fans who live in Atlanta/Savannah, then we have a couple more from Boston flying into Atlanta and driving over. I think there's only 2-3 in the group who actually live in Louisiana. Plus, there's a lot more to do in Birmingham Friday night than Meridian.

If you are going early, just go down 20/59. The trip down shouldn't be bad. The harder part is planning on parking in a spot where you can get back after the game without a ton of traffic.

It's finding out who the Designated Drivers will be then. Considering we're LSU fans finding enough people who won't drink on game day is a challenge

Not really, in my opinion.
If you drive, I recommend parking somewhere between the campus and downtown. When you leave, take University Blvd. back downtown to Lurleen Wallace Blvd and go left, which will become I-359.
Do not get on I-59/20. Stay in the inside lane, go past I-59/20 and turn left on Skyland Blvd/US Hwy 11. Take Hwy 11 all the way back to the Mercedes plant and get on I-59/20 there. In my opinion, the traffic to get on I-59/20 there in Tuscaloosa and the traffic out of town is horrible, especially for a big game, and very stressful. This is my preferred way to get out of town...been doing it for years.
If you do drive and get there early enough...at least 4 hours for LSU...you may be lucky enough to park on the street for free in the neighborhood between the University Club and Queen City Park. Again...been doing that for years. Just don't park on a yellow curb. There is a long grassy strip on 3rd Street, across the street from the homes on that street. You can legally park in the grass off the street for free. Get there 5 hours early for this game. For Arkansas we got there about two and a half hours before kickoff and there was still room for two or three vehicles.
If you want to park there, take I-59/20 to I-359, I-359 becomes Lurleen Wallace and goes into downtown, go right on University, left on Queen City Ave. at the University Club, left on 4th street and start looking for spaces on the street. If you don't find one, turn right on 19th, then right on 3rd and check the grassy strip down the left side of the street. If you don't find a place to park for free, you can pay to park at that apt. building on 19th.

Actually, though, I highly recommend that you reach out to the Birmingham chapter of the LSU Alumni Association. It may be likely that they will operate a charter bus or two from Birmingham.
In 2016 when I went to the game in Baton Rouge, I did the same thing with the Bama alumni group in New Orleans. It was a bit pricey, but well worth it. Bus parked right by the stadium and left 45 minutes after the game ended. Price included a box lunch. Also, they picked up a police escort outside of BR and allowed us to fly by the bumper to bumper traffic. I would absolutely do it again.

BS.... traffic on a normal day through this area headed to Bham is a cluster frick with the construction going on. I’d hate to see what it’s like on game day

You're 100% right. That's why I try to avoid the interstate altogether as far back to Birmingham as I can. You may not be able to go over 55 MPH, but you should at least be able to keep moving for the most part, and it's much less stressful.
