Auburn will certainly get theirs but if the rumor about Mike Davis possibly coming as assistant head coach is true both schools are going to upgrade their recruiting tremendously.

We can pay Mike Davis 3 or 4 times as an assistant head coach what he makes as head coach of Texas Southern.

A proven head coach and up and comer don't really belong together. Prohm and White have both been head coaches for what, 4 years? Now while I agree that they could have success at Bama, I think johnson who has experienced good success in the nba could instantly bring in good talent and have quicker success than those guys. Then if/when he left, the program is on a better foundation that could attract better coaches than just up and comers.

Four years is enough time to judge whether or not a coach has talent as a coach. You can often tell a good coach even when their team is bad and you can also see their strengths and weaknesses. White, in particular, has big time potential and should do very well when he makes the jump.

As I said earlier, I think Johnson will be very good for recruiting. There's just a lot more to the college game that leaves questions about how he'll do. He could do great but it's not an easy adjustment from pro to college ball and many of the adjustment issues have nothing to do with coaching. It's just a whole different world in college.

Wouldn't that be awesome if Bama landed him?

Yes it would be awesome. It would keep him away from the Pelicans.

It is laughable the bammers are painting this guy as a great coach. His winning percentage in the NBA is around 50 percent. He made it past the first round of the playoffs twice in 7 or 8 years. Please hire him

Says the guy who claims AJ ruined and set back the NY Knicks despite being the Nets coach. You have the credibility when speaking about basketball coaching that Harvey Updyke does discussing gardening.

Thank goodness we finally got phannie's opinion on the potential hire. I've been on pins and needles waiting for this revelation.

John calipari's NBA record is 72-112. Guess he sucks, too.

Either way it's a crazy world we live in. 10 years ago. Avery Johnson was in the NBA Finals. Now we are talking about him being the coach of Bama Basketball.

Calipari also proved he was a great college coach before he ever went to the NBA. Avery Johnson has never coached college basketball. He could be good the same way anybody could be good, but he is far from a proven commodity

Interesting. There have been 20 coaching changes out of 30 teams since the last time he was fired a little over 2 years ago. He got none of those jobs. Maybe college will be nicer to him.

We could hire Coach K and have Izzo and Calipari as assistants and auburnphan would still troll us.

No sure if this has been posted here or not but per Jeff Goodman just tweeted:
