The Tide’s win posted the second-highest college football rating of the weekend, behind Texas-Oklahoma on FOX (4.5), but ahead of Florida-LSU on ESPN later in the night (3.6).

So, how did an 11:00 kickoff beat other prime-time games?

No way these numbers are accurate.

Agreed. I watched Bama because I'm a Bama grad, no other reason. I watched much of UGA/SCar, because of the upset potential. I watched all of LSU/UF because of the top 10 matchup.

Ratings are not just based on raw viewers. LSU/UF had that by hundreds of thousands.

I think all of the information is accurate. I think op's source is using Nieslson ratings, and shares of a smaller market, but LSU being prime time had many more overall viewers yet a slightly smaller share of the overall tv market at broadcast time.

And they still haven't face a ranked opponent.

Is Texas still a top 10 win?

OP is using Nielson ratings which are shares of the tv market at that time. Basically, Bama/aTm got a slightly larger share of a smaller tv market, with the advantage of being on broadcast tv mind you. LSU/UF had many more overall viewers, just a slightly lower share of a larger market.

Yep its pathetic. Its not that I doubt how good they are. They are just the least interesting team to watch week to week. Playstyle is boring as frick too man. Dink and dunk and let their superior recruits outrun people. It works but not very interesting

You should be able to go to bed pretty early on 11/9, then.

College ratings have to be viewed in context.
What time was the game?
What network?
Competition from other games airing in the same time slot or with significant overlap?

The biggest games of the day on Oct. 12 were at 11:00am and 7:00pm

The CBS game faced very little competition. ABC had Clemson-FSU. Wisconsin-MSU was another snoozer, and it was buried on the BTN. The competition on the SEC Network was Vandy-UNLV. (It was A&M-USCe in 2018).

Ohio St and Auburn were idle, and I’m sure both fan bases tuned in to watch Bama.

More TVs on for Saturday night maybe?

It does have something to do with it and how it relates to the market share at the time. More people watching games overall but lower share % for each game.

I remember hearing NYC has one of the lowest market shares for CFB but avg like 5 million that watch every Saturday, so one of the largest viewing audiences for CFB in a city but due to size one of the least watched sporting events in the city due to pro sports.
