So basically in the video, Rex says he was disappointed in his comments, but that GMac has an opportunity to play. The tweet looks like it was taken out of context.

he will get a shot with another team based on his pre-season performance alone. leaving the jets would probably be the best thing for him.

Sounds to me like Greg will be competing for playing time as QB (back-up) of the JETS.

Did you watch the video? He was very positive in his remarks concerning McElroy. Said he wished he hadn't made the remarks, nothing negative implied.

Notice how Rex doesn't mention a single thing regarding his ability to play the position. Nothing about his footwork or his pocket presence or his accuracy or his arm strength or his mobility. Just some lukewarm half-hearted compliments about McElroy being a winner and being able to take some tough hits. He sounds like Verne. Every time Verne called an Alabama game, he always mentioned the fact that Greg McElroy hasn't lost a game since eighth grade or that he has a shot at becoming a Rhodes scholar. He never complimented McElroy's abilities as a QB besides the SEC Championship Game against Florida.
