I don't think Prohm would have been a bad hire just more underwhelming. Johnson at least brings a bigger splash and name recognition.

No. No it isn't.

It may be a good hire.....only time will tell. It is also just as likely this will set the bama program back X amount of years.

Terrible hire. Time for 6 more years of mediocrity in basketball.

Watch and listen to the National and state media once the hire is officially announced. It, at the very least, is a huge splash.

Every single NBA team twitter account has tweeted the news. Already a tidal wave...

The truth is right now there is a 50/50 shot that this hire works out. Of course, Bama fans are saying 'I think it will' because they want to be optimistic...it's understandable. It's 50/50, and time will tell.

Probably more like a Bill Callahan taking the Nebraska job, but an interesting hire for sure

If he keeps this current recruiting class it has already worked out imo. No way he's worse than Grant as a game day coach. Even a semi-competent coach would have had this year's team on the bubble.

I will watch and listen but Gruden was an accomplished NFL coach and Avery doesn't come close to that in comparison.

I will listen and see how many compare him to Gruden though.

If this were the NBA I'd say it's a solid hire. No idea what to think about AJ in the college ranks.

This is a good hire. Johnson is a good coach. It is a risk is he is a career NBA guy but if he can recruit then we should be fine.

Frankly under the circumstances we need this after the Marshall fiasco. Marshall has a better college pedigree but really excited about the possibilities with AJ.

Bill Battle should be fired. You hire someone with zero college experience while Tenneseee and State made great hires.

You don't have to coach at all in the nba. The players coach themselves!!!

Yep...and I think any hire would be essentially 50/50 unless you're bringing in one of the top coaches in the game. That's why it's not guaranteed that any of the coaches who have been hired in the SEC this year will turn their programs into perennial tourney teams, but the name recognition and excitement around the SEC has increased exponentially.

I honestly have no clue how good he will be in college, but what I can attest to is he's a good man and leader from all I've seen and read, and he should Lead their program with class and dignity.

Congrats on finding a man of character Bama
