I think Auburn if they have Malzahn for the long haul could be similar to Leach at TTU. They won't be Oregon, but their attack will give most teams trouble. A consistent 10-win team, and occasional dark-horse NC contender

Does not compute. New coach at Oregon with same talent, which is what you're using to hold on to some present hope that Malzahn suddenly becomes a 'coach that can't win the big one.' They do not out-recruit Auburn either. I give you 3/10 on the effort.

The biggest problem with Auburn this year is that they lack that decidedly unlikable character on the coaching staff and don't have any controversial players to hate.
Trooper Taylor was way too easy to hate. Cam and Farily were villians dyed in the wool.
This Auburn team is too damned likable, especially after the A&M win. I'm sure the fans will make up for that soon enough though.

I see Auburn's success more as an indictment of Chizik than Malzhan being super awesome.
Auburn's turnaround is primarily due to the fact last year's team was not nearly as bad talent wise as their final record. That was a 7-5, 4-4'ish team that completely mailed it in the last half of the season. You look at how tough they played Clemson and LSU, that's not the same team that was losing every game by 50 the last half of the season.
Chizik clearly "lost" the team horribly at some point.
Malzhan is actually getting them to play up to their potential, which he of course should get props for.
The Chiz blew his wad in 2010. He did a jam up job. Then in 2011, he got complacent and lost control of the team. I dont think may true Auburn fans will disagree with that.
We have talent. We have had talent since 2009. We just did not play as a team since the beginning of 2012. 2011 was a decent year considering what we lost

Chiz was never a good coach. He had a mediocre defense and the combination of NKOTB Malzhan/Newton put that team over the top.
Anybody could have been the head coach and the result would have probably been the same.

This play tells everything about the attitude Malzahn has instilled in these players. I remember Julio Jones doing stuff like this.

That was an awesome play. The fact that they are playing this hard after losing to LSU early goes to show how much they believe in each other and Gus.

Sorta disagree. Chizik was the right personality with all the shite surrounding the program in 2010

This is the correct answer. Chiz dropped the ball but his "Head coaching" job in 2010 was flawless. Most coaches would not have kept it together with all that shite flying around.

Lord have MERCY! This thread is about Auburn - why in the world do some of you Aggie's always feel the need to interject aTm into damn near every thread?

quote:That play right there was the deciding factor for me. I knew without a doubt that Malzhan had turned the '12 chicken shite into chicken salad for AU. He and his staff have been able to get in the heads of those players and they want to fight like true AU Tigers.

Actually, this thread applies to both. It shows what the right coaching hire can do to a talented team that is poorly coached.

Larry Coker says hi.
No, Larry says Gene you suck.
In his six years at Miami Coker won a natty and three conference titles. He never had a losing season and finished under .500 in conference play once. He also lost fewer overall games (15) in six seasons at Miami than Gene lost (19) in three seasons at Auburn. Larry's also .500 in a little over two seasons at Texas San-Antiono and they're a startup program.
Larry's not on anybody's short list of great coaches, but he's got Gene by a mile.

With Butch Jones' recruits.
Here was Coker's record:
2001: 12-0 (bowl win)
2002: 12-1 (bowl loss)
2003: 11-2 (bowl win)
2004: 9-3 (bowl win)
2005: 9-3 (bowl loss)
2006: 7-6 (bowl win)
Notice the sharp dropoff between 2003-2004, the first year with almost all of his players.

Actually, he's UNDER .500 (14-15) and got blown out by DENNIS FRANCHIONE.

That's pretty problematic because we love Jake Holland so much the REC's using some left over ref money to buy him an extra year.

Chiz is candidate for all kinds of "worst" awards. Worst dressed on game day - the dentist's smock was pretty funny. Chiz's poor performance makes me think that Cam may be the best college football player ever. He just had one year but he won about 4 games on his own. I don't think Tebow is close. Herschel maybe. Chiz seemed to know that finally year that he had "been found out" so to speak. I would not consider him for any college coaching job.
