So in that respect, does A&M's turnaround say more about Sherman than Sumlin?

I think you have to postpone that assessment until after Manzeil leaves. He was the difference in several of those games last year.

You do know that Jameill Showers would have been the starter under Sherman, right?

Maybe so. Props to Sumlin for starting Manziel. I still give most of the credit to Manziel. Sumlin is a good coach, no disrespect intended.

He didn't do shite at FLA, either. Was part of a crappy Lions group, and was only ok at Michigan too.

Wasn't all Loeffler's fault. The team did quit and had terrible QB play, but he seems terrible as well.

Keihl Frazier was so fricking bad

Didn't follow A&M prior to them joining the conference so I havr no idea what Sumlin had on the shelves when he took over and can't say one way or the other

Not near as bad as Chizik. Both bad yes, but Chizik is in a class by himself.

His offense at VT is currently ranked 112th. That is 6 spots better than his offense at AU finished last year.

Loeffler, now the offensive coordinator at Virginia Tech, implied the reason for Auburn’s offensive struggles during the last year’s 3-9 season – the worst in 60 years for the program – were the fault of the players he inherited from former coach Gene Chizik and then-offensive coordinator and current Auburn coach Gus Malzahn, not him or his staff.

Isn't he feeling all kinds of stupid

I agree. Dismissed the starting safety before the season. Went to aTm without a starting O-lineman who was being disciplined. He seems to be no non-sense on the discipline front.

I see Auburn's success more as an indictment of Chizik than Malzhan being super awesome.

Auburn's turnaround is primarily due to the fact last year's team was not nearly as bad talent wise as their final record. That was a 7-5, 4-4'ish team that completely mailed it in the last half of the season. You look at how tough they played Clemson and LSU, that's not the same team that was losing every game by 50 the last half of the season.

Chizik clearly "lost" the team horribly at some point.

Malzhan is actually getting them to play up to their potential, which he of course should get props for.
Also seems like you've changed your point of view...

Auburn fans trying to say they expect 9-3? Seriously?

The team was an epic dumpster fire last year, not only 0-8 in the SEC but got absolutely demolished in so many games.

While Chizik was a gigantic joke, it wasn't ALL his fault, clearly there are some major personnel issues.
So is it ALL Chizik's fault or not?

What is funny about this thread is AU fans knew this and many on here claimed we had no talent. It is interesting to see the turnaround of opinion...
You'll have to forgive some of us Rocky. We did live through the post 2010 season where the AU fans were crowning Gene Chizik & his staff as the greatest since sliced bread, all because they brought AU their first NC in +50 yrs.

Congrats on a great start to the season, the team looks liking they're ready to fight again.

The reality is most of us were saying he has done great so far and took a wait and see approach on whether he was legit or not in responses to attacks on him.

Also, it may turn out that the GusBus is the greatest thing since sliced bread (which is over rated btw).

Would any team have acted differently bro? Hell look at how people react when they get a new coach that hasn't done anything. Chizik and staff at least produced a Crystal. Sorry for partying.

This can't be understated.

The mental makeup of this team compared to last year has been a 180 degree turn. Getting players to buy in and believe after what happened year is really half the battle. Chizik got a very experience defensive staff to work on getting that side of the ball shaped up, while he knew what he could do on the offensive side.

The new S&C coach has done an outstanding job as well. We rotate a lot of players on the DL, but I haven't seen them look tired once this year, and they've been on the field for a lot of plays. He's instilled an attitude that had disappeared with our last S&C coach, who many suspect had his authority stripped by Chizik and co.

He did. Did you not see Brady yesterday against the Jets? He was Khiel Frazieresque.

Chizik had good recruiting classes every year and especially after the 2010 NC.It's pretty obvious that there's talent there especially on the Defensive side.

I was thinking after the A&M game about how last Season was bad coaching, bad team chemistry or something.

The turnaround at Auburn has been a 180 degree turn.
