Why don't we look at +/- differential vs opponents, seriously? A comfortable win where you give points up is more dominant than a tight win, where if you gave up just a couple more yds you lose. A stop means more when you're down to Oregon with a minute left, vs up 2 scores on Texas with a minute left.
