You are being dense. The discussion here is about Auburn basketball vs Auburn football.

And it's funny, UK fans are very interested in Auburn basketball now. I'll take it.

Deal with it. UK is the second best program in the SEC over the last four or five years, at best.

2 of the last 5 regular season titles and 3 of the last 5 tournament championships say different.

Not, I recognize it and have brought it up many times. I said the best thing about Gus was that he had AU in the conversation in late October on a consistent basis, they problem was he couldn't finish. The fact that he beat Saban on 3 occasions is proof of that. Was he a FOTM member, yes.

quote:

And hasn't done it in back to back years one time. It can't consistently sustain Top 10 level success. That is the entire point here. And it's something Bruce has already shown can be done in basketball with a recruiting pipeline that enables him to compete, personnel wise, with most anybody in the country. Football flat out does not have that same ability. That's why it takes a great senior class, a great player, etc for Auburn to have 1-2 magical years every 10 and the rest are 8-4/7-5/6-7 years.

Bruce has taken it to that level, but I do not know of anyone who would call him a FOTM member. Which is my point. Same with Cliff Ellis. If you hire a good experienced and proven coach, you can get results at AU. If you hire the Lebo's and the Barbee's of the world, you get those results.

quote:

The irony here is Auburn literally just hired a Fruit of the Month Club Member to be their football coach, and is getting and will continue to get the results that generally leads to.

No irony, history. I said it before and I thought they should have stepped up and hired Freeze. I said the same thing about Bama when they hired Oats if you remember.

Oh absolutely. Ceiling could raise for football in the future but from what we know now, it’s lower than it has been in a while. Mostly due to the strength of other teams in the sec.

Auburn does have a high ceiling in basketball and Pearl has a good thing going there but so do quite a few other SEC schools Pearl is competing against. Kentucky is a given of course while Arkansas, LSU, and even MSU are more than capable of being thorns in his side each year. That's not to mention Alabama either. I know some have rightfully had fun with our struggles the last month or so but Oates did just sign a Top 5 recruiting class and will be a factor in the SEC most years. Pearl would have a much easier road year to year at Louisville than Auburn will in the SEC. I'd say the same about Oates leaving if Louisville comes hard after him

Not a fan of the ACC ? Louisville is the 4th or 5th best program in the ACC since joining.

If Louisville wants him, he’s gone. Let’s not act like coaching basketball at Auburn is on the same level as coaching basketball at Louisville.

I was taking about the strength of other SEC teams in football in which AU is trailing in recruiting and overall momentum.

Bruce has Auburn at the top or close to the top of the SEC 4 out of the last 5 years. He has an established recruiting pipeline in addition to having the best eye for under-recruited talent. He’s as established as one can be right now in the SEC.

Sorry to disappoint. If Bruce wants to leave he is gone. Louisville is just another rebuilding program. Look at AUs roster and tell us he can do the same based on geography at UL.

Shopper beware .....

Louisville is headed to the NCAA prison cell. More charges dropped in their lap.

They had to fire their coach ....

I don't think Bruce wants the possibility of no tournament for three to five years.
