The backside of the scoreboard also has a screen. They will most likely put games on it for tailgaters.

Excellent idea. Tip of the hat to Auburn on that.

Why would someone put something so grand on a run down stadium like Auburn's?

The reality is fans do not give a shite what a stadium looks like from the outside. They are looking for the following:

1.Good views of the field
2.Easy access to Concessions and Restrooms
3.Quality Food at a reasonable cost
4.Good sound Systems
5.Large Video and Replay Board

AU is trying to improve on 4 and 5.

Any school that dumps a lot of money to be the biggest and have the most glitter are doing it for ego.

Well... that's one way to ensure that people will come into the game late.

In other words, JH looks like shite and we don't care. But we really do, if we're being honest with ourselves. But we'll just say it's because we don't have an ego.

Scoreboard looks cool.

Makes more sense to do that now. Then you can add and update around it.

I guess adding the gargantuan scoreboard means that Auburn is not expecting on expanding the stadium anytime soon

They're looking at expanding the North Endzone much like Clemson/Miss St did to their endzone a few years back. All the season tix holders are being told to start looking elsewhere if they don't want to shell out BIG $$$ to retain their seats.

What you said:
quote:

Weighing in at 800 tons and 40,000 bolts, the new scoreboard at Jordan-Hare is so big that the Federal Aviation Administration requires it to be equipped with special lighting to keep aircraft from flying into it.

What the article you linked says:

I heard years ago that a underground river runs under the South endzone of Jordan Hare. Wonder if that's true.

It looks like a place to play a football game. Only figs care about outer aesthetics on a football stadium. Old school places like JHS and Tiger Stadium (haven't seen it since the new reno) look exactly how they should.

You're prob one of the goobs who whines about the Rose Bowl being old and it taking too long for you to get to the bathroom.

Yes I've heard the rumor, but not sure the truth to it. That side of the stadium does have a seriously large "hole" behind it. My parents have been receiving emails regarding north endzone expansion. Last I had seen, Jacobs didn't like any of the proposals.

Is there that much of a difference for the fan inside?
