He has contacts in Alabama too from what I've heard. We don't usually recruit South Carolina hard anyways so I don't know why you would be worried in the first place.

Why are Auburn fans so happy about this hire? Johnson was fired as Southern Miss' head coach Nov. 27 after his first and only season resulted in an 0-12 record.
Yeah, I understand he is no stranger to the SEC, having made stops as defensive coordinator at Mississippi State, and Alabama. He also has had stops at Clemson and Appalachian State.
Someone please explain to me why this is such a great hire today.

He is a veteran defensive coordinator and has been good at all stops. Not sure why its hard to understand. Some great coordinators are not good head coaches...see Chiz

We will see. We arent going to have top 5 defenses but there is no reason why we cant have a defense similiar to Oregon's this year. They get it done for the most part.

You can be sucessful in a Malzahn styled system. you just have to get over the fact, that there will be a lot of yards in the box score after the game. As the other team will have more drives. But you can still do well in the points catagory

Yeah I think Johnson is a solid hire, not a homerun by any means.
The MSU fans on this board are obsessed with Johnson

Exactly. Total defense will never be all that great, but the defense can be a great scoring defense. That is the key.

Strength and conditioning will be key.Have to get their endurance up to be on the field when the O goes three and out quickly not every possession will be touchdown drive.
