Not really. I just knew that it would be useful at some point in time. But it is good to know how well you handle cross examination, or would you run away from that also?

So I may have missed this somewhere in this thread, but how can EJ take a job and still keep his buyout from So Miss? Does he not lose his buyout if he takes another job?

Or is Auburn paying him more than the $2.7 he was guaranteed from So Miss?

BTW, EJ has never stayed at one place for very long. His longest stay at any place in 35 years was at SC for three years. Think about that. Something is wrong there.

If true, good hire. Auburn has some good talent built up, but still needs a QB

That is some screwy stuff right there.

Well, look at it this way. Everyone who recruits against him will have that whole 0-12 thing to hang on him in front of Mamma. The 0-12 season will be like an albatross to him on the recruiting trail.

Good hire, I like Ellis and what he did with our defense. Though I think it has improved now that Ward has taken over, Ellis is a bit too conservative for my taste at times.

chizik's 5-19 @ Iowa State didn't seem to hurt his recruiting at Auburn.

So ... Ellis and Malzahn are going to win a MNC in their first couple of years at Auburn? Because Auburn's recruiting was helped immensely by what happened to them straight out of the chute with Cam and Fairly - agreed?

Also, are the three big namers on this year's list still solid with Auburn? Foster, Lawson, Liner is it? Not a flame, just asking a question.

Ellis Johnson's forte is recruiting in South Carolina - always has been, always will be. Will he be able to come back in and out-recruit SC and Clemson in this state? I dunno. I hope not in SC's case at least.

He has not been hired...however if he is, he will find more than enough quality in the State in the middle.

Chizik had a top 10 class before that season. That class had Cam, Dyer, Lemonier and a bunch of other highly rated players.

I'm not saying Ellis Johnson is not a good hire - he is. I'm not saying he will not be able to recruit, he will. I'm also not saying anything derogatory about Auburn because, well, Lord knows y'all have owned us. But what I am saying is that Johnson will be hampered recruiting in SC imho - the 0-12 thing will be hung over his head, I hope for selfish reasons. And I am saying that Auburn still has some other things hanging over their heads with regard to the NCAA that is gonna be used to recruit against them - so I fully expect, that the first time EJ comes back to SC recruiting against Whammy Ward and Spurrier for some of these big time players coming out of this state ... and Auburn has had some good ones who have come out of this state over the years dating back to a guy I know well and played against in high school in Marshall Riley (and there have been many others since including his nephew Victor) ... but it is going to be a much tougher row to hoe for EJ in SC this time around, no matter where he landed.

We all knew either Auburn or Tennessee would snatch him up - it was just a smart move. But no one seems terribly worried that he will do much damage recruiting in this state where he has all his contacts.

No offense, but NCAA stuff has been "held over Auburn's head" for years now to little or no avail. Roof landed big recruits left and right after being one of the worst Duke head coaches of all time. Luper, Trooper, Rocker, all came from shotty programs.

I think he'll have to fight those things but I imagine it's not going to be any issue.

Damn solid hire. Auburn did good this time around. Between Malzahn and Ellis AU is going to be very good very soon.

Well everything is beyond garbage right now. So I would be very happy if the same thing happened here.
