I'm sure he was. And I'm just as sure that the AU brass won't be able to see through their moral superiority long enough to seriously consider him now. Y'all have to have a high character coach that live by the Creed first and foremost. A win at all cost mentality/philosophy will never fly at AU.

thats fricking retarded considering Saban recruits nationally and usually gets who he wants. every coach already has to deal with him on the best players. it doesnt matter if they share the state or not. any coach worth what we are about to have to pay better have the confidence to nut up and believe he can compete anyway.

I think Saban may factor into a decision between AU or LSU, or whether or not Petrino leaves a solid gig in Louisville. But the idea that most coaches don't want a top 15ish job because they have Saban in the same state is laughably stupid.

Why would Petrino consider AU? He's been courted by AU and y'all passed on him twice.

We won't get Herman. Auburn is a shitshow.

We are like the Israelites walking with Moses in the wilderness for 40 years. We are now living in the cellar with MSU and Vandy.

Welcome to Kentucky football Ross. Better hope Pearl gets our BB program turned around.

We always have women softball too...

You cannot land a good coach like Herman in Sept.

What is he going to do, leave Houston after week 4 because Auburn fired the busdriver?

I don't know if he would have qualms about that or not. But I suspect any coach at a place like Louisville is always going to consider a job like Auburn to some extent. He may ultimately decline, but egomaniacs aren't scoffing at things like that.

It's not like LSU doesn't have to play Saban every year anyway. Recruiting is easier for LSU but that's true regardless of whether Saban coaches at bama or not. Auburn has recruited as well as any other point in its history since Saban was hired anyway, 2008 class excepted

Assuming he means hypothetically. Petrino to Auburn now is a moot point.
But we only passed on him once. I think we had a verbal agreement with him in 2003 before that got blown open. If we hadn't gotten caught, he would have been our coach in 2004.

No, but you start doing the legwork now, not waiting until December to gauge interest. Not like Herman is coming anyway though.

I'm on record as saying we should re-do jetgate, but be sneakier this time. Get Petrino on board now on the DL, then have him go after Jarrett Stidham behind the scenes for AU.

I honestly think if you bring in Petrino with a QB like Stidham and give them our skill players to work with, and the guys we have coming back on D to back them up, Auburn would be an instant playoff contender.

Oh you are in another thread about a team you couldn't care less about?
And it's pretty much a given Petrino isn't coming based on his buyout.

I can see that. Anybody in the professional fields get turned down for jobs all the time. They have a choice. They can get their feelings hurt and allow that to cost them money....or they can be professional, understand that it was business, and go get a paycheck. Petrino does not strike me as the kind of guy that would allow his feelings interfere with his paycheck. If Auburn decides he is a fit, I have a feeling he would gladly talk to them again.

If we had hired Petrino back in 2012, we wouldn't be in this position. Now it's probably too late to get him.
