Cultish behavior.
My youngest son, now 26, was offered full ride academic scholarships to 5 different Universities.
He doesn't even care about sports that much. When he received his offer from Auburn, on the first page it had in 1 inch letters, WAR EAGLE.
He looked at me and said, "I'm not going to join a cult" He then took their package and threw it in the trash.

Not really, many successful people get up early (and you have no idea if that person was up at 4:30 their time, there are other time zones..)
Like I said, Auburn week for Alabama, really the only week Alabama focuses on Auburn....

It's ok. It is a great rivalry. You don't have to pretend not to care to try to gain some sense of superiority.

It's beneath an AD to talk that way. He comes off petty af.

Can somebody sum up what he said in one or two sentences
Sure.
He said We Comin’
So he was able to tell Bama the same thing Coach O has, but he did it by using full sentences and coherent language.
Looks they each are getting the same results too.

Without reading that, I'd say it was the mountain top speech?

Wonder if anybody read that whole thing?

sounded a lot like damage control.

Can you imagine Greg Byrne doing this bullshite?
Posted on 11/20/18 at 8:36 am to TideFaninFl
quote:True, but we're also 9-6 in the Iron Bowl, so at least there's that
since Housel's "speech" Alabama has won 6 more National Titles, Auburn 1......

BTW, the hiring of David Housel as AD is right up there amongst the Most Auburn Things Ever. The man was a decent SID, but was horribly ill-equipped to run any department of a major university, much less one that is responsible for tens of millions of dollars in revenue and expenditures.
He's also a two-faced hypocrite, who once slow-played a family friend for a head coaching position at a lesser sport, then when they had accepted a similar position at another university, tried to persuade them to renege on their agreement. Not very Auburn creed-like.

To be fair, I can't imagine Auburn's current AD doing that either. The AD position has changed a bit since Housel was hired. It was a generally an old coach/good ole boy back then, it's a CEO position now.
With that said, Housel played the "Auburn Spirit we are different" card so perfectly that he is the poster boy for laughter.

Here is another good one talking about the war:
quote:
History will show that the flip of Rueben Foster to Auburn will go down as the single-most important event in changing the perception of the little/big brother roles in college football in the state of Alabama. Mainly because of what this manchild beast will do inside Jordan-Hare Stadium and the publicity that has surrounded the flip (press conference, tattoo, etc.). Not to mention the laundry list of fellow defensive recruits that are salivating at a chance to play with this wrecking ball on the field. This guy's magnetism and mentality are no different that Cam's. Both are once in a generation players and we'll have had them in Orange in Blue in a span of four years.
I've never seen a time in which truly informed Alabama fans, not the toothleess Wal-Mart Muldykes, have been in such anxiety and agony over the direction of the Auburn Football program. I love every second of it, and they see what's happening and can't do anything about it. When you treat your players as family members and they play for you out of respect and admiration, things like 28-27 happen. When you have players that fear their coach, see rampant gray-shirting, bogus medical departures and wonder if they will have their scholarship the following year, things like a 24-0 complete meltdown implosion against your hated rival happen.
It all starts at the top and CGC will go down as a legendary coach in college football history, not just Auburn history, Book It. I tell all of the Bammers without hesitation that CGC will win more national championships at Auburn than Satan will at UTea. If you hook me up to a polygraph while saying it, I would pass because that's how much I believe it to be true. The perception of Auburn Football in-state and on a national level is changing. September 1st is about to open the country's eyes as to what tenacious Auburn football is all about, and I can't wait to watch the look on little dabo's face. These are great times to be an Auburn Tiger. A dynasty is in the making, and if you don't see it, you don't have a clue.
War Damn Chizik and War Damn Eagle.

Someone please tell me David Housel is still alive and well.
He's got to be old as dirt, but I hope he's still lucid and cognizant of his surroundings.
I hope he can see how his beloved Auburn football team's doing and I hope he knows how his glorious Family is getting along on the Plains with everyone coming together and working for the greater good.

And I don’t want to get anybody mad, and I don’t want to offend anybody, but think about the Vietnam War. Think about it in the context of the Alabama-Auburn rivalry. Time and time again we Americans claimed victory. We read about it in the paper, we heard about it on television, we beat ourselves on the chest. And what did it get us? In the little things and the hearts of the people? That’s where wars are won and lost, and we’re winning this war with Alabama
Wait, so Auburn = Viet Cong?

You assume that the person got up and went right to the website. I know I am up at 3:30 A.M. every morning. It is a great rivalry, but the perspective of the schools is different. Auburn thinks about Alabama 365.25 days a year, and Alabama only thinks about Auburn for 7 days (well, add about 14 more days for the other sports, as Alabama thinks about Auburn the day before and the day of)
It is not trying to gain a sense of superiority, the trophy case does that. Alabama and Auburn football do not compare, only similarities are they both are in the SEC, both are in Alabama, and both are football teams.
