Not sure what to make of this game lots of story lines. It could be a defensive battle. Both teams have played a decent OOC team. Being a home game helps. But its a 2:30pm time so fans might be a little less loud than night game.
Some neat stat I ran across

Home field, and OU's knowledge of Arnold (and my own).

That is what Temple did in the first half last week. OU's passing yardage was 3x the rushing yards at that point.
They let him scramble too much even on those first couple of drives. Auburn should have a better defensive front than Temple which should result i better success.

The Oklahoma rushing attack still hasn't jelled at this point and games have been won with great defense and Mateer's running and throwing.
I think the offense needs to establish an inside running game and quit trying to go wide as even Temple had enough speed to stuff those plays.
100%, I think that is the case with a lot of teams currently. OU has some young starters up front, as the season progresses those growing pains will be alleviated.

I think a lot will depend on settling Arnold down, controlling the line of scrimmage, and hitting on a few deep shots to loosen Boomer up.
Can AU keep contain, can we get pressure up the middle, and can our secondary make some plays/tackle?
We'll need to keep OU's D-line off of Arnold's arse long enough for him to make some plays.
I won't lie, I'm nervous as shite, but excited. I feel like Auburn can definitely compete, and give themselves a chance to win this game. We find out a lot about our Tegers, this week. War Eagle!

I like Auburn and Oklahoma. I respect both programs. I think this will be a 28-24 type of game probably with OK pulling it out since they are home.
Auburn is a tough SOB, and everyone who played them regularly knows they are tough to put down.

I imagine Venebales and the defefnsive coaches know a few things about how to make Jackson Arnold uncomfortable and play shittier.
Yeah, they know his kryptonite — having all his wide receivers and offensive linemen injured. We’ll see how they apply this knowledge.

I’m thinking 38-20 OU

I'm thinking this might be the game of the day.
When you look at the two big wins for either team, I would argue Baylor looks like the better opponent.
If I'm picking a QB, I'd probably go Mateer.
Playmakers, I'd go Auburn.
Home field advantage for Oklahoma.
All around performance to this point is telling me Oklahoma, but my gut is telling me 34-31 Auburn.

OU in a close one. Think we still have some problem areas in pass defense in particular.
We are much better than we have been the last two years, but OU looks solid and on the road it will be a tough W to pull out.

Panthers also. The two shitty teams in the NFC South are the only reasons why I haven't had to go see my bookie yet this season.

How much does Arnold knowing Venables defense like the back of his hand impact this?
Posted on 9/17/25 at 2:52 pm to dallastiger55
I think we’ll be able to run the ball, but our secondary makes me nervous against a guy like Mateer

Genuine question, not looking for an argument:
How do you reconcile your statement with the fact that Arnold's stat line is basically the exact same as it was through three games at OU?
Do you really feel confident that a QB averaging about 165 passing yards per game against Baylor, Ball St and USA is gonna outperform his current output on the road against OUs defense?
I think Auburn can win this game, for sure but Jackson has shown me nothing through three weeks that I didn't already see a year ago.
That said, I have only watched 1 and a half of your games (I missed Ball St) maybe I am missing something but it still appears that he slow with his reads and is hesitant to throw intermediate and deep passes. Am I wrong?

It’s the beauty of the Rant — entertaining and mind-numbingly stupid, all in the same post.

He doesn’t look appreciably different than last year. I think Auburn has a much better run game because our offensive line is much better this year. If Mateer hits us continually with big plays, we’re going to have a tough time, but if we can run the ball and control the clock and get a turnover here or there could be a different story. I really like our offensive line.

The still need work in pass protection.
In my opinion, our biggest concern is our secondary. What i expected to be a strength has not been so far.

I don’t think he needs to necessarily grossly outperform what he has done so far. He’s been pretty efficient and has zero INT’s on the season with 7 total TD’s and as long as he keeps doing what he has been doing with our run game I think we will be in good shape.
We’ve also been playing pretty much a base O (and D) the majority of the first three games.
