two of the craziest plays in the history of cfb.
So, two singular, improbable plays invalidates AU's season but two season-ending losses to two unranked teams in no way casts a air of doubt over LSU's title? Gotcha...

You want me to explain why I think he is? His history shows you that he is.
I think he is all about momentum because our teams have lost their swagger but have the talent to compete and lack consistent on field leadership. Cam was able to will the team to victories and marshall was similar but had Mason with him in 2013. Look at the difference Lawson made Saturday, our line has been one of the worst I have ever seen and all of a sudden they play pretty solid with Lawson.
Plus without a consistent defense to help you out in those off games, the offense has to be perfect in every game. Well when you run handful of plays, then you damn sure better execute those really well.

so it's not like they had an lsu/bama type season where they just straight up beat everyone.
LSU hasn't beat everyone on their schedule since 1958. Auburn did it 5 years ago. But it's cute that are trying to lump LSU in with Bama.

Happened in 2011... four years ago.

I would try to forget 1/9 happened as well

I remember it quite vividly. We still beat every team on our schedule that year.

Miles has actually had success though. Richt has been barely above average...sometimes.

Considering we saw the exact same play in Bama v Ole Miss this year as we did in AU v UGA how crazy can it be? Especially compared to entire college history.
And a FG return for a TD is not crazy, just rare because they are not missed inbounds. Gatech return was much more crazy because it required a block first.

Tuberville was our Richt -- steady and consistent. But in some ways he was Richt's opposite. Richt cannot win the big game, but Tubs was a master at it. Tubs' record against top 10 teams was something ungodly (I am sure some AU fan here will pull up the stat). Tubs beat UF when Spurrier and Meyer both had top teams. Some say 2001 was Spurrier's best Florida team, but Tubs beat him and pretty much knocked him out of contention that year. I still remember the disgust on Spurrier's face after AU kicked the final FG. And I remember the 2006 (or 2007) season where Meyer called a TO just as AU made the winning FG, which forced AU to have to kick it twice.
Tubs' problem, though, was he always shite the bed and lost a game that there is no way in hell he should have lost. His biggest foe was Houston Nutt at Arky who typically abused him even when AU was a top 5 team and playing at home. And Tubs wouldn't just barely lose these games, but usually got blown out of the stadium. And Tubs lost to USC (Southern Cal) twice, once at home in a 23-0 embarrassment.
Tubs also pissed a lot of fans off with his so-called "Tubershell." He would get a good lead and then sit on the ball with stupidly conservative play-calling. We'd go 3 and out over and over again until the opposing team tied the game.
His undoing, though, was 2008 and the hiring of Tony Franklin who sold DVD's to high-schools teaching his "system" of a spread offense. The BBQ boys (Tubs other assistants he refused to fire) didn't get along with Franklin and Franklin had a nervous breakdown one day in the locker room that resulted in Tubs firing him on the spot. AU fans like to rag on Franklin for being a washed up HS coach, but if you look at Franklin's record as an OC since 2008, he has done very well. He has fielded top offenses (statistically), albeit in the mid-major conferences.
I think most AU people miss Tubs in general. We miss his ability to motivate the team to get upsets. We miss his very stout (usually top 5) defenses (With Chizik and Muschamp as DC's). We also miss his fear the thumb 6 year domination of bammer.
We don't miss the Tubershell or letting inferior teams run us out of JHS on occasion.
In some ways, Tubs is responsible for 2010 and 2013. He set AU on the path that resulted in Chizik being hired. Chizik in turn hired Gus as OC. Now Gus is the HC (and Muschamp is back at AU). And, finally, Tubs' son (Tucker) is AU's signal caller on the sidelines.

Not yet. He has only been a head coach for four years now in the toughest league in the country and arguably the toughest time in college football parity-wise. In the same time frame with 1 year at Toledo and 3 at Michigan State, Saban won 28 games. Unfortunately, time isn't kind to coaches now when they are making tons of cash to produce results now.

How did LSU backdoor in? They won the sec. And your team was lucky, most teams need a lil luck to win the championship. But in Auburn's case, they didn't win the title.

I thought it was 180,000$. Oh well still a great investment, but 70K would have bought better LBs for this year. "We need to spread the wealth."
People heppin' bidness.

You needed two teams to lose ahead of you. Lsu backdoor in 2007 was way worse than Bama in 2011.

Tuberville is a very good coach who should have a BCS title on his resume. I think the AU faithful jumped the gun in firing him.

Without the miracle of 2007 they are virtually the same coach.

The only team with a real argument. 2010 AU played a harder schedule than either but had many more close calls.

I really liked Tubs as a coach and a person but I was one who said we should have let him go in 2003, 2004 and 2005 when Sexton leveraged every single coach opening to get more money out of us. Tubs was an extremely lazy recruiter that is pretty much obsolete in today's game. He and his boys liked to take a few weeks off after the season every year which you can't do these days and still keep your classes together.
