Didn't Tuberville beat Alabama like 6 years in a row? That's one of the glaring omissions in this thread.
He did get 6 in a row against Alabama but he was also facing Alabama at their worst ten year span in probably 40 years. Alabama was a shite team and still out recruited Tubs with who they got to campus. Hell, overall the whole SEC was shite during his tenure at Auburn with a couple exceptions.

AU was also in a bit of a unique situation. We weren't just in a MNC draught, but we had suffered through a lot of "close calls" in the modern era - 1983: when the final polls were released, 1988: when we lost the earthquake game, 1993: undefeated but on probation; 2004: our best team, etc.
I've thought about this bizaare jeckyl-hyde pattern a lot, and glad you posted this thread because I've asked the question of others too.
My answer in 2012: I didn't care. I was happy to accept inconsistency and trade the fiasco seasons we've endured just to finally hoist that trophy and get the monkey off our back.
My answer in 2015: I'm sick of it. We have our national championship trophy, complete with perfect season and Heisman trophy. I have the perfect Dream Season checked off my bucket list. The blissful magic of 2013 and the trip to Pasadena was just a cherry on top. I am now ready to go back to the good ol' days of hard nosed AU football, grinding out 8-10 win seasons, losing a game we shouldn't and playing in a New Year's bowl. Let someone ELSE take our seat on the roller coaster, I'd rather be Wisconsin at this point, even if you guaranteed me that we would not play for another anytime soon.
I can empathize with UGA fans however, and Oregon too. It's like going on a date with a different hot chick every weekend but never getting laid

Well, if you just look at recent history, we have a championship team every 3-5 years. I'd take tubbs stability with a championship team every 5-8 years. 2004 happened.

Auburn is a great test case for fans: Do you prefer higher highs and lower lows from your favorite team, or a more stable program that doesn't win big enough? Georgia fans are curious about the answer.
Auburn is supremely lucky. They caught lightening in a bottle twice. Not every team gets a star JUCO QB recruit and he actually ends up a star on your team. They've done it twice. In 2013, they were super lucky at the end of several games, in 2010, they won the lotto with a freak of nature JUCO QB.
As an LSU fan, I'd take some of that luck myself. Seems like we drained the barrel in 2007 and after years of really bad luck, we just might be the team of destiny this year.

there isn't a fanbase outside of Alabama and fsu that wouldnt trade the last five years with auburn.

my take is this - over the last several years, schools have brought in coaches who created a great deal of excitement, only for that excitement to fizzle as i knew it would (watch out fla). the sec is brutal. it even made urban quit. the only guys who have survived are richt, miles and saban. richt hasn't had elite success but, he's been stable. miles and saban have found a winning formula.
i think gus can be a successful coach but, only if he adjusts to the conference, the players, his staff, etc. miles and saban have done this several times. gus can't stick with the same scheme every year. the sec is too good and other coaches will absolutely find ways to exploit it. chavis is a perfect example. he was great but, teams found a way to get the better of him at crucial times. al borges is another great example. he was on top of the mountain and then auburn couldn't run him out of town fast enough.
bert, mcilwain, sumlin, freeze, butch, all the same story. they better adapt and adjust if they want to be consistently successful.

so it's not like they had an lsu type season where they just straight up beat everyone.

Your opinion is irrelevant. The fact is LSU needed two teams to lose on the final weekend to get there. Something that was beyond your control, twice. It took a huge amount of luck for both of those things to happen.

UGA fans are in the same boat as us with Tubs, good man and good coach but you won't win shite with him there because he will derp a few away.
Were you around in 2004? That was a better season than any coach coaching in the SEC right now has ever had.

LSU lost their last game of the season and played for a national title with 2 losses, excusing this had nothing to do with luck is ignorant

You should have just stopped right there. 2007 is a joke and your team didn't earn anything. You lost to Arkansas and Kentucky and nothing else really needs to be said.

notice how no one ever names the other teams who deserved to be in the ncg more than lsu, their criteria and why their criteria is justified. they just ape the usual LSU SUCKS AND GOT LUCKY.
