He just bought house on the lake. I'd say he's planning on staying, a bit longer.

I have to think post-year 3 is the year he moves on.
Pretty much agree with the caveat that I don't think he takes just any old job. He's gone a long way to rehab himself under Saban but he still can't afford to flop at his next HC stop.
He'd be better off doing another year as Bama's OC instead of taking a head job just for the sake of being a head coach again.

god, I hope he does this. nick saban would make a terrible AD. bama sports would take a downward spiral, including football. his ego would cause major problems; problems that me and the rest of the SEC would laugh our arse off about.
I'd love to hear why you think this would happen.
He's already the recruiting closer for pretty much every other sport. Sarah Patterson said he'd meet with a potential gymnastics recruit whenever she asked. Jay Sewell, the golf coach, said the same thing.
The Closer
That's a sure sign of an out of control ego - taking time in the middle of fall camp to meet with a gymnastics recruit simply because it would help the program.
In other words, you're full of shait.

He has to believe it. His whole world view depends on the image he's created, cultivated, and clung to despite all evidence to the contrary.

I would find this easier to believe if the money wasn't so far off. What he's making as on OC is what 30% of what he'd make in another p5 HC position? For better or for worse, he is a "splashy" hire and he'd land somewhere paying 4mil a year, if not more.
USC owed him several million dollars when they fired him, and any salary from Alabama probably mitigated against that. Kiffin has made a boatload of money the last two years, but I think that ended with the 2015 season.
Kiffin has done an outstanding job as an OC, but it's a far stretch to say that he is ready to manage an entire program. Entirely different skill set.

If he stay past next year I have to assume he is being promised the keys to the gate when Saban steps down to become AD.
Who in Tuscaloosa has the authority to make that decision? 74 year old Bill Battle? 70 year old Paul Braynt Jr? Judy Bonner? Hardly. They may not even still be on the job when Saban retires. If Kiffin wants the job when it becomes open, whether it's in one year or five, he will go through the same process as any other interested applicant.

I would also think a good portion of an AD's time would be having to kiss boosters' asses. I have heard it said from the Alabama fans and alumni that post on here that Saban detests doing this.
Don't believe it just because some posters said it. Saban already has to kiss arse for his foundation...even if Miss Terry does a lot of that. Donors don't show up at a Nick's Kids event to shake Terry Saban's hand.

Agreed. If anyone thinks Nick Saban would have to kiss arse to get a booster to write a check, they need to consider what he has done for Bama football.

He keeps winning championships? Bama has won a natty every other year since he came on board.

Is a lake house an insurance policy these days???
I don't see him being a coordinator much longer. I didn't know that bit about USC still paying him but it's interesting that it ended this year. I could definitley see him taking over Bama, but only if Saban retires soon.

Saban could be successful in any field. The man has a drive (fueled by the aforementioned ego and the spectre of his father) that is unparalleled.
It makes you wonder how much of a hardass Saban's dad was, to turn him into who he is today.

I'm not saying you are wrong, but couldn't he make a lot more money doing TV? I would also think a good portion of an AD's time would be having to kiss boosters' asses. I have heard it said from the Alabama fans and alumni that post on here that Saban detests doing this.

i don't think kiffin wants to be a college hc ... he doesn't strike me as the type that can repeatedly walk into living rooms and either charm the parents with his personality or make them believe he will see to it they get a degree and a chance at the nfl ... and that's fine ... he knows who he is ... he may need to be a college hc before getting back to the nfl, but it will not be at alabama ...
and saban would not be a very good athletic director, and probably doesn't want anything to do with the job ... he'll go all out as a coach until one day he decides he's had enough, then he'll retire and work pt as an analyst on tv ... being ad after being a successful hc is like being the vp ...

The AD job is already been given to him and that is why they brought Bill Battle in as the AD. Bill is old and will step down when Saban retires as HC. Saban will then pick the next coach and stay involved in the program and come to the games. It is already all in place.
