That's odd because his education listed Alabama in 1973.

He went to Law School at Alabama (undergrad at Huntingdon), but he is an Auburn man through and through.

From an interview with Glen Thrush and Politico

quote:

SEN. SESSIONS: If they're in the national championship game, I'm for that one. But I went to law school at Alabama and I grew up a loyal Auburn fan. I'm one of the few that wrestles with those issues sometimes, but we're really proud of them. Like the University of Alabama has almost doubled its enrollment. Its academic scores are up. It's 37,000 students. Auburn has a very high academic record, maybe even higher test scores. So well over 25,000 or 28,000 students. So they're doing very well and it's a big asset to the state.

This is how basketball works. It's been shady for a while. We are one of a few that were caught this time it seems. I'm not sure every school has a coach doing this, but there are a more that don't get caught than do.

"We" didn't do anything, at least that is known right now

An assistant HC fricked us, a fact which the SDNY is using to pursue Persons. I'm not saying we're not screwed, but the indictment lays out how Persons defrauded "University-1".

You can read the full complaint on the OP, pretty sure all teams have been identified.

Never know who will rat, after being arrested

That's what I can't figure out. How is an Under Armour school mixed up with this Adidas mess?

Because I don't think Chuck Person cared much about the affiliations. He cared about the $$$$$.

Also, his connection was through guys he knew in the NBA it looks like, not through the University contacts of the shoe deal.

This is all really really big and potentially bad for every school who has landed a 4* or higher recruit in the last 5 years. Widespread practice that is now being criminalized.

Basically cross your fingers and hope nobody associated with your respective university got caught, because we were all doing it.

I know you're being sarcastic, but I think there is a reasonable chance the blow to Auburn (in real terms, not media) is going to disappoint people who only read the headlines.

I get that, but I don't think that will protect our program as Chuck was Ann agent of the program and at least 2 of our basketball players took money.

Also, THIS IS ENTRAPMENT. WE WILL BEAT THIS. 40-0 SHIP!

I believed you. I have a cousin who went to Alabama, and was and is still an Auburn fan because her Dad was an Auburn grad and was raised to be an Auburn fan. It is not that uncommon in this state. I was raised right, however.

This whole thing is going to radically change college basketball. The FBI clearly is going to pull out and publicize everything they can, and that falls right down to the NCAA who has been on the outside looking in at all of this NCAABB recruiting/camp/summer culture.

It's going to blow the frick up.

I agree, actually. Seems like this has way more to do with something Chuck was doing on his own than anything Auburn had done.

I really can't predict where it'll go, but there does not appear to be any hint that the money was given to benefit the program or team in anyway.

The complaint lays out how AU (I assume) was defrauded by continuing to pay scholarship money and playing players that were ineligible.

Going to be even more interesting when the FBI starts twisting arms and asking people to turn on other people.

This is all pretty incredible.
