Geez dude. Grow up.
We just got caught by the FBI paying players. I'm going to call you out for doing a terrible job of trashing us
That's like getting a free punch in on your worst enemy and taking a jab at the shoulder.

From Reddit fwiw

• Schools are not on the hook, according to United States Attorney Joon Kim. The assistants at USC, Arizona, Oklahoma State and Auburn are all implicated, but neither the schools themselves -- nor the head coaches at those schools -- have been levied with any allegations.

This would hit right after Bama signs the best class they've ever had.
No need to look into Anthony Grants tenure.....

I actually love Pearl. I met him at a function this past year. He came and surprised a young man (and the biggest AU fan in the world) who is blind. The guy was so overwhelmed to meet Bruce and, I swear, there wasn't a dry eye in the place. Made a fan out of me.
But you never know how a story may turn. Look at OM.

Not federally they're not, but the NCAA is a different story.

There's this little thing called Lack of Instituional Control

and I bet fans of every school have one assistant coach in mind that they think would be the guy on their staff that would be the one who did this.
I'll be honest, when I first saw the news after I laughed at Auburn by very next thought was "shait, I hope that's not why Avery fired Bob Simon seemingly out of the blue."

From the NYT:
quote:
The complaints did not implicate any head coaches, perhaps for reasons explained by one of the defendants in an audio recording of a secret meeting. According to a transcript of comments by the prospective agent, Christian Dawkins, the path to securing commitments from college athletes was through assistant coaches, because head coaches “ain’t willing to [take bribes], cause they’re making too much money. And it’s too risky.”
Makes sense. An Asst. looking for some extra cash, or to look good on-the-job (for a promotion one day to a HC job) may.

Except that they can then use it as proof they had no knowledge. If they did have proof, FBI would implicate them
As for the failure to monitor/head coach responsibility bylaws, hard to say. Chuck Person had personal financial gain through this. Auburn likely will point to an atmosphere of compliance and Chuck knowingly went rogue on his own

Is there any thing saying who Arizona paid to go there?

About time someone takes down that rogue cow college in West Georgia.

Thinking of teams who "benefit" from all this
UConn plays @Zona and @Auburn in one week. They are being gift wrapped some winnable quality OOC games

Brian Bowen got 100k this summer to go to Louisville
Is that in the Louisville section of the DOJ filing? I've only read the Auburn one.
If so, I've got one question and one observation.
The question is was the $100k in addition to the free hookers? Pitino bringing the A game up there.
The observation is that danged sure explains why the SEC's been sucking at hoops. We're getting WAY outbid.

Louisville isn't specifically named, but they basicallly describe a university in Kentucky that can only be Louisville who paid $100k to a player

All this case proves is that Louisville should be winning the natty every year with the way they make the hookers and cash flow towards recruits.

Yeah, apparently their ROI is terrible.

This is a fair point.
Especially since this involves multiple schools, and who knows how many more come up during discovery?
And we are talking big money, wasn't the Louisville Adidas deal worth more than 150 million dollars?
This is like the world's biggest onion. The more you peel the more crying there is going to be.

think the main thing, if no one else is involved (and we are waaaay too early on this), is that the NCAA can claim a lack of institution control.
There would have to be knowledge of the action, a willful disregard, and even then a pattern within the department to get a LOIC.

Considering the magnitude of what is going on, the NCAA punishment will likely feel like a slap on the wrist for AU + Bruce Pearl
If both Wiley+Heron sit out though, it might as well be the death penalty for Bruce/AU BBall though. Eventually AU bball becomes a failed venture
Posted on 9/26/17 at 4:10 pm to GenesChin
Yeah, actual NCAA punishment aside, this still puts a stake in the basketball team, I would think.
