The actual rule qualifies "family members, certified contract advisors, financial advisors, marketing representatives, brand managers or anyone who is employed by or associated with such individuals" as agents, which is great.

This is according to deadspin. I'm just reading from the news. I think it's unchartered and too soon to know, tbh.

Does anyone believe Sumlin when he says he just found out about this yesterday?

from the NCAA website:

quote:

However, the Council approved a rule that broadens the definition of agents to include third-party influences, including family members, who market student-athletes’ athletics ability or reputation for personal financial gain. The rule, sponsored by the Amateurism Cabinet, would include individuals who either directly or indirectly:

• Represent or attempt to represent a prospective or current student-athlete in the marketing of his or her athletics ability or reputation for financial gain; or

• Seek to obtain any type of financial gain or benefit from securing a prospect’s enrollment at an institution or a student-athlete’s potential earnings as a professional athlete.

The new definition would include certified contract advisors, financial advisors, marketing representatives, brand managers or anyone who is employed by or associated with such individuals.

What if at that point he was just a bro, and wasn't hired yet? And I think with the douche level this crew is at "brand manager" is probably the most accurate description.

He could have told the truth. He obviously got defensive when the reporter asked him about it.

Why did his parents let that parasite latch on? Nothing good ever comes out of a "family friend" "handler".

Not a chance. ESPN has already quoted our athletic department compliance program saying they checked it out and found nothing. That was back in like March.

Probably the same reason it always happens. Feeling entitled, thinking one is above reproach and never facing consequences for ones actions.

They said at the time Dareus was really helpful and his mom had just died, and that he was the most helpful person they'd ever investigated. I think he narked.

No idea. His parents seem more like another set of friends than parents at moments. That is pure speculation, but I don't think they would be the kind of people to put their foot down, if they ever felt the desire.

It explains a lot about the JFF circus this offseason. If his parents are making good choices like that, who's suprised Manziel has been fricking up? Because...

I never got the memorabilia stuff. Who the frick would pay $100 for some kid's signature? I guess I would if I knew I could turn around and sell if to $200. Otherwise, frick it.

the better question is why did A&M tell Johnny and his family to get rid of the entourage and assign a University employee to him when in public?... or maybe they tried the Manziel's resisted.

His parents are ineffectual enablers it seems. Much to blame. I realize it's tough as I have 3 myself, but why not more control (pro "bouncer" live in, personal atty, etc).
