a year to year scholarship is totally fair compensation for that?
What exactly do you think they should get paid?

if I'm an aggie, I don't think I'd take that stand... not yet anyway... he's your best shot at unreached glory.

whatever the schools deem their value to be.

There's almost zero risk and a ton of reward in continue to let this play out.

Probably because they're working.
Here's a thought. Figure up all that required practice time and required film and weight room time. Now assign minimum wage to that and see how it ends up.
Scholarships are nice and all but football players work a lot damn harder than anybody on an academic scholarship with far more demands on their time and far more restrictions.
Nobody is saying they should make big bucks.. but I'm thinking $1k a month per player (approximately a million dollars a year for a team) would be pretty reasonable and take away a lot of the legitimate complaints.

That's a can of worms I really don't think you want to see opened.

Are you really going to try and say that believing schools should be allowed to pay athletes their market value is socialist?

Thats why you see 5 players rent a shitty $1000/mth AEP home, so they can make their allowances go further. $1300 a month isn't gettin' rich but players don't walk around penniless waiting on the cafeteria to open so they can eat...
on top of that its now law that you have to pay interns.

Bingo. I give Aggie fans a hard time, mostly in jest, and if you go back and look at my posts I have defended JFF until now. Sumlin is a great coach, and the program is bigger than this dude. Week in and week out something happens, and now this garbage. Everyone on this board knows he did it, and he was not only stupid, but arrogant enough to do it anyway. Whether or not you like the rule, it is a rule. Why should JFF get to profit and AJ Green can't? A&M is bigger than Manziel. That honor code is serious. A&M has got to be fed up with this guy at this point.

What about swimmers or lax players? Cheerleaders? Band members? SGA members? Football players aren't the only ones who work a lot and most of them don't even try in their bullshite majors.

Did anyone put a gun to their heads?

I honestly think there will be no suspension. Even if they have legit evidence. With the major conferences already talking about how players deserve more and displeasure of current NCAA policies, it would be a good business move (which is what they are, a business) to sweep this under the rug.
Wasn't it just a few weeks ago that articles were being posted left and right about how there are talks of the major conferences leaving the NCAA?

I don't necessarily agree with that... there are a lot of students who are in some very demanding majors and put in tons of work.. it might not be physically demanding like football, but it's still extremely difficult.

just to make 100% sure, you're saying this would be a good move for the ncaa to sweep it under the rug?

If getting an MD is less time consuming and rigorous than playing football, we are in serious trouble. Agree with you

Exactly and if UGA is anything like LSU the players aren't eating like your everyday dorm rat.

Would never work
You'd end up having only SEC and Big 10 football players getting paid because the smaller schools can't afford it
Not to mention its complete BS that football players work harder than any other college athlete
