I don’t think AU and their big money boosters are much different than the group at Bama who ran things prior to Saban.

I just think the AU group is basically incompetent and dysfunctional.

We pay up front. You don't put your talent on lay-away or installment plans.

I think you're probably right. Saban just had the personality, reputation, and resume to tell those guys to eat shite and they just took it and dealt with it. I hope the culture has changed but I'm not positive it won't revert back when Saban leaves if we don't have another super strong coach in there.

Terry Bowden, Tommy Tuberville, Gene Chizik, Gus Malzahn. All had winning records as coaches at Auburn, all either won a national title, played for a national title or coached an unbeaten season.

All were forced out.

You either leave or get fired anywhere in the country. Retiring somewhere is a rarity. A place like Auburn also isn't a stepping stone job where you would be hiring these promising up and coming guys that would end up leaving for a better job eventually, or at least it shouldn't be.

Saban will retire at Bama

Kirby can probably ride even just 1 natty to retire at UGA unless he just completely packs it in for a several years, Some NFL team might be stupid and hire him eventually.

Anyone else in the country that you can say with any confidence will retire where they are?

Wow, what an exposé. I had no idea that the Auburn football program was such a sewage plant, although the turnover of worthy coaches should have been a strong clue.

Auburn waiting until Harsin went on vacation to have their media lackeys start leaking this shite is so low rent.

Dabo and Day as long as the continue doing what they have so far.

Jimbo as well if he continues trending in the right direction and wins it all in the next 2-4 years.

The Bama crew hired some duds too.

Winning cures all though. Tuberville was able to shut them up for a couple of years after he survived the coup and then posted the undefeated season in 2004.

Agree on Dabo if he doesn't take the Bama job after Saban, I think Day either leaves for the NFL or ends up fired. He is fairly young, a lot can happen.

He has to have results, but I think he probably gets them

We don’t.

We were vocal about the bullshite jetgate, Chizik hire, Gus hire, and Gus extension.

Harsin actually appeared to finally be a potential break from the PTB bullshite but he’s either a colossal frick up or they’re pulling the same ole shite as usual.

Auburn is a so so school in the middle of nowhere. Auburn grads and fans want so badly to get the recognition that their rivals get, they’ll resort to anything, but Auburn will always be Auburn.

Anyone with eyes can see this. Somehow though we have dumbass fans that are convinced that firing a coach after 1 year and hiring another in March is going to right the program and get recruiting back on track. There isn’t a decent coach in the country that’s going to take this job under those circumstances.

Now I have no dog in this fight. But what exactly has Harsin done football wise to show he’s a mess up? Hard to win with an average QB.

Now he clearly is not playing the boosters game and good for him. But it appears the boosters will try to find a coach who does.

With respect, I believe you might be underestimating the draw of the dollar.

6 million will turn heads.

I think Harbert has been the biggest problem the last 5 years. He's the one who pushed for Malzahn's extension.
Harbert has put a ton of money into the University on both the athletic and academic sides. He is either an Oaks or Dye Society level athletic donor (Over a million dollars cumulative in outright donations [i.e. not including ticket priority]) and paid to have the college business branded as the Harbert College of Business.

Bob Broadway is another big money athletics donor. He and his wife have given/pledged over 3 million outright, and they named the club seating in the old pressbox area after him. I think at one time I heard he had given money directly to that project as well, but I'm not sure.

As for Bowden...

I have no doubt the stuff about the ledger is true. I am a bit suspicious that he was shocked by it. His brother was OC during Dye's last two years, so I am pretty sure that info would have been readily available.

I don't know if the stuff about Lowder's daughter is true or just rumor. I had a family member who was pretty well connected at AU (I think was a frat brother with Lowder, knew Rane to some degree). He always said the issue with Bowden was that he went to TPTB in the middle of the season and wanted to know if he was going to be retained for 1999. When they told him they would do a performance review after the season (which meant he was going to be axed) he quit instead of getting fired because his ego as a Bowden wouldn't let him have the stink of being fired.
