It all depends on who is the coach. A Pertrino can recruit and run a system can work in Ark, but a Bert has a hard time when he tries to copy others. Freeze did it at Ole Miss, but not many others were as successful. Some places have a level of success built in, Ark and Ole Miss are not those schools.

By all indications has grown up?

Yeah, I'll believe that when I see it. The reality is that he hasn't done anything to warrant being the "big name", aside from ride Saban's coat tails and screw over Tenner.

If anyone was the big name this go around, it was Norvell.

Bro we are no where near the most penalized school. More or less middle of the pack in the SEC

I think what's more relevant in that regard is:

SEC West Titles (as in they played in the SECCG):

Arkansas 3
Ole Miss 0

Weeks in AP Poll

Arkansas 417
Ole Miss 289

Conference Titles

Arkansas 13
Ole Miss 6

Those are pretty substantial differences.

I'm going to count vacated wins for Ole Miss here to make things somewhat fair, but their SEC records since Arkansas joined the SEC are:

Ole Miss 86-138 (.384)
Arkansas 91-131-2 (.410)

It's close, but Arkansas does have the slight edge.

this... at this time.

They did get the bigger brand hire, but we all know what that means for sure... Absolutely nothing.

In 2-3 years we will see who has the better brand going forward. WPS!

I’m, I said this exact thing earlier in the thread. I am just fighting back against the hyperbole of Arkansas acting like they’re Alabama

Let’s talk about now, shall we? That’s what truly counts, right?

That doesn’t really make any sense either. A better job doesn’t vary year to year based on the current team’s record. Do you really consider Baylor, who traditionally is basically Vandy, a better job than Texas even though UT hasn’t been relevant in a while?

It’s close, but I would say since ‘92 Arkansas is slightly ahead based on head to head record and division titles. People keep saying it’s easier to recruit at Ole Miss but outside of the Freeze years when they were cheating we recruit within 3 spots of each other on average.

The recency bias is strong with a lot of people and everyone just parrots everyone else’s narratives. No one called us the Vanderbilt of the West when we finished #5 in the country 8 years ago. College football is cyclical.

But..... you are wrong. Things do change, sometimes dramatically (not just talking season to season). I think everyone will agree that, historically, Nebraska has an elite history. But.... today.... that job is not nearly attractive as numerous programs with much less stellar history.

Regardless if Arkansas fans want to admit it or not, the additions of A&M and Mizzou to the SEC, put a major hurt on Arkansas.

All this talk of superior facilities is BS. Arkansas’ Football facilities are middle of the pack in the SEC nowadays. Ole Miss & State have vastly improved theirs over the past 5-6 years with all the money from the SEC TV contracts.

Recruiting is the name of the game. Period. Arkansas has the worst recruiting base of any SEC school outside of Vandy.

Ole Miss & Arkansas, Today, and moving forward 25 years, are almost dead heat programs. But... recruiting base gives Ole Miss. a slight edge.

Really depends on how you define job. There's a multitude of intangibles that one may consider relevant when answering this question. Ole Miss is objectively a more attractive job as things stand to day. That gap shrinks the more intangibles you consider.

Arkansas is my vacation destination every year. Beautiful state. It's like visiting the Great Smokies at 1/3rd the cost. Just living and working in the Ozarks make it a better job.

How? We recruit the exact same that we did before they joined. In fact, we signed the most Rivals 4-stars last year that we’ve ever signed. We outrecruit Missouri nearly every year. Recruiting isn’t the reason we keep losing to them.

Really? Vaught-Hemingway is usually considered one of the worst stadiums in the SEC. We just had a $160 million endzone expansion that added new locker rooms and the Jerry Jones Student Athlete Success Center is only like 5 years old. I know everyone in the SEC has nice facilities but we are at least ahead of OM from what I’ve seen. We also have the #1 food/nutrition budget in the SEC.

Historically - Arkansas

Current - Ole Miss

Future - Ole Miss

Arkansas has nicer bells and whistles, but it's out of sight, out of mind. Ole Miss is better situated.

The part that is surprising here is that the last 5 years, Ole Miss 3 losing seasons and 1 .500 season and on NCAA probation... yet is still the better job now than Arkansas. Man, Arky has fallen low and I'm not actually happy about that. Arkansas has some of the better and nicer fans than most of the rest of the SEC. They are good humored and for the most part, good sports.
