Three total meetings since 1926.

Zero games since 2002.

Campuses are under a 4 hour drive apart.

How is that possible?

Probably because both played Texas and didn't see anything to gain from playing each other.

The arky ad told me after the cotton bowl loss and being held to 69 total yards it would never play OU again…. Don’t kill the messenger .

In all seriousness we may be playing a lot soon.

Barry Switzer told me after the 78 orange bowl “no mas.”

So Frank Broyles told you that? Well before the 78 Orange Bowl, both programs haven't faced each other since the 20s.

It was different in those days. Arkansas was competing for SWC titles and Oklahoma was competing for Big 8 titles. Both played Texas during the regular when they were good and better than both.

No need to have an extra tough opponent on the schedule when it could be a potential loss for both programs that could keep them out of the national title contention.

In the past 60 years, OU has played Kentucky and Vanderbilt as many times as they've played Arkansas.

They've played Alabama and LSU more.

That just kinda blows my mind given that we share a state border and the fanbases overlap quite a bit around here.

I remember that one. Oklahoma was heavily favored and Arkansas absolutely curb stomped the Sooners.

Lou Holtshhhhhhh fired those baws up. I think we were missing at least the top 2, if not 3 running backs due to suspensions and still ran all over. Wasn’t alive for those days…

Is that the game Arkansas had a 50 yard touchdown run called back do to a bogus penalty. Is that the game Arkansas completed a long pass inside the Oklahoma 5 only to have it ruled out of bounds when all the replays showed a completion. Unfortunately at that time there was no review. Is that the game Oklahoma only had 200 yards and when a journalist praised the Arkansas defense the Oklahoma coach got mad and ended the interview and left the room.

We have so many alumni/people from our state that are football legends and so little to show for it.

Frank didn't want to hire him because he said that he didn't want a coach with a personality of an alley cat.

Look what happened to Oklahoma in the 90s when he left Norman. The NCAA then didn't mess around and put them on severe probation.

IIRC, there were coaching issues in that game. IIRC, just before the game it was learned that Switzer was having an affair with the offensive coordinators wife. It showed.

Arkansas was a 24 point underdog going into the game with 78% of their scoring suspended from the team. An unknown running back, Roland Sales, set an orange bowl rushing record with 206 yards.

I thought we would get blown out but Lou thought different.

Arkansas should have won a share of the title that year.
