Do you routinely advocate for paying people who are in breach of their contracts?

By refusing to pay what the University owes the man. You chose to fire him, so pay him what you owe him. No coach with his record was going to get serious consideration as a HC at another University until he rehabilitates his reputation. He takes a job in the NFL wiht the Patriots to do just that. As did Schiano.

Yikes, so you think the AD had all the say in this? Do you know how many anything works around an University's Athletic Program

I'm sure Bielema, will seek his day in court. How does Arkansas know for sure his agent wasn't putting out feelers to programs that he was interested in becoming their next head coach.

If I remember right, as part of the agreement Bert was supposed to file a yearly document outlining his attempts to get equal employment.

He never did.

Unh Hunh. Right.

OK.

One last time for you and the other people out there missing some DNA.

The contract stated he would not just try to find a job, but a job of equal stature.

This will take some effort on your part. I know. It's hard. Your family tree is just one branch for the last 6 generations.

Now. Taking a job as the lowest paid NFL D-Line coach at 150 grand and not interviewing or trying to interview for the many jobs that have been open is not seeking a job of equal stature.

You will need to sit down here. This is very confusing I know. Find a reasonable bright 5 year old in your neighborhood and get them to explain that to you.

We will wait since it could take a day or two to register.

Now. If Bert had bothered to interview for one of those many job openings out there (and per the terms of the agreement we have access to his email so we know he didn't) we would still be on the hook to pay him. But he did not. He did not have to land one of those jobs, he had to try and get one.

He was too lazy to make the minimal effort to at least appear like he was looking for another job.

Oh My God! You mean we might discourage coaches who are too damn lazy to get off their arse and try to find work from applying for the Arkansas job!?!?!? Oh noes! How can we live without hiring someone so lazy?

It's definitely going to be a discussion that their future coach's agent is going to have to have with them. Might deter some top level coaches from considering arkansas.

No it won't lol

mean...he is employed by an NFL team as a DL coach. How exactly is that, "not looking for another job?"

When you are only getting paid $50K compared to what other coaches are getting paid, that is not holding up your side of the deal. That is saying dont pay me what you should because I have this other money here.

I'm fairly certain it had to be another job with similar pay.

Patriots may have been the only solid offer he received.

It's not just offers received, the contract places a duty on him to actively seek out employment of a similar(ish) level. I'm pretty sure he could have coached a G5 team if he wanted to, or been a DC somewhere.

False.

I thought that would happen to Florida when they fricked over the shark fricker and fired him for a stupid reason, but Mullen still went to them.

The lesson is for a SEC job there will always be candidates. Coaches are full of egos, they all think 'it won't happen to me because I will win."

Its fricking loser talk to talk about a buyout before you ever get the job.

100% this, any AD should be very worried if a HC won't accept a job because the buyout isn't nice enough for them.
