I would say most people expect Wilson to step in and pickup right where Mallet left off

I would say there is not a chance in hell that you know the opinion of most Hog fans, let alone most people. Wilson will be ok to very good, with a little time under his belt. Mallet was the best QB in the SEC, and he made some terrible mistakes. Wilson will also. They all can't be sCam Newton. Nobody runs "play 36" like him.

No doubt, Wilson looked GREAT against AU, but my point is who didn't look great against their pass D.

I'm not basing my opinion on Wilson's play against Auburn, although that did illustrate he can perform on the road in a hostile environment. I've seen Wilson practice and play in scrimmages many times and I'm very comfortable with him at QB.

It's incredible how Arkansas fans overlook the two interceptions. That's what decided the game.

Either way, I think Tyler Wilson will be a good one. Not looking forward to seeing another performance like last year's.

fwiw, petrino said one of the INT's was the receiver's fault, not wilson's. the other was just a bad decision. even with both of them, though, his numbers and throws were extremely impressive.

FWIW, that throw wasn't in the auburn game. It was against Ole Miss, when Mallett was benched, I mean had a concussion.

No.
And I won't be worried until there is a reason to be worried.

No, what decided the game was really the Broderick Green "fumble", whether or not you think it was a legit call or not.

After that, Petrino tried to make Tyler make some throws that he really doesn't have the ability to make (like the two over the middle). Mallett could have made those throws, but it really wasn't a part of Wilson's arsenal. I think it was done out of desperation, and Tyler ended up floating it once and Josh Bynes made a spectacular player on the other.

The underlying issue on offense for Arkansas is that OL, not the QB spot.

You're right. I almost forgot that good quarterbacks never throw interceptions. Thanks for clearing that up.

He's been learning under Petrino for 4 years with a damn fine receiving corp, good TE's, RB's that can pass block and catch the ball out of the backfield...

The line is a little inexperienced in a couple spots but Wilson is mobile and can throw at different launch points....unlike Mallett

Hell even Casey Dick put up 2600 yards and 14 TD's with freshman all over the field...

I'm guessing:

3200 yards, 28 TD's 8 picks

At AU he went 24/35 for 342 with 4 TDs and 2 Ints
For comparison, McElroy went 27/37 for 377 and 2 TDs.

My question is, what if Wilson is as good in the passing game as McElroy?

The problem with your logic here is the McElroy had been the starter forever, and had a full week of knowing he would be the QB against Auburn.

Wilson came in at what, half? He came in unexpectedly, on the road, and threw for those numbers in about a half.

We could have Tom Brady with P. Manning as a back up and I would still worry.

My big worries are with the O Line and having to use Bama as the first real test.

I'd be worried too. What kind of coach wouldn't start Manning over Brady.

I think he'll have 12-14 picks, but 30 TD's in the Hogs Offense shouldn't be a problem.

He'll be fine, but he's gonna get flushed outta the pocket more than we would like.

The kid is a lot more mobile than Mallett was/is and can be just as deadly on his mid range and short passes.

No one this conference has seen in a decade can throw a long dart like Ryan Mallett could, but often times Ryan would try and force throws into spots where a more mobile QB would have simply tucked the ball and picked up 3-6 yards.

It's a trade off that I think will force opposing defenses to play more of a base defense on 1st and 2nd downs and that will benefit the Razorbacks.
So no, I guess that all things considered I am not too worried about Tyler Wilson being our starting QB.

I expect Wilson to put up nice numbers this season. With the weak offensive line and Knile being out we will rely on our short passing game a lot. Wilson is about as accurate as you can ask for in a quarterback. Like a previous poster stated he has been in the system four years now. He knows the playbook front and back. With the senior wideout we have leading I think he will put up monster numbers this season.

More like the tackles. Our inside Oline is fine, esp at starter. Our depth isn't spectacular, but that is life. The problem though is the edges (which incidentally contributes to the interior depth problem). Thankfully Mallett isn't back there this year or else our entire offense would have to be re-written.

I look for us to run a lot of two tight-end formations. Honestly, against teams that can really rush off the edge I think you will see us in a lot of offset I formation looks depending on how Small progresses as a FB.

I'm optimistic about Wilson. I have no doubt he is a good passer.

My only concerns about him are his ability to maintain composure in intimidating SEC environments, and what I see as a propensity to fumble too much.
