First trip there next week. Any must-see joints famous for burgers or wings or whatever?

People will suggest Herman's, I think it is overpriced and under delivers on the food. Hugo's on the square is interesting and the burgers are good. Lots of wing places and several decent BBQ places, all try to copy the Delta style BBQ shack and miss the mark a little bit but still have good food. Our current big food push is more of the Greenhouse Grill variety, good food but doesn't sound like what you are looking for.

Almost everything here is new outside of downtown Fayetteville (and that is mostly new places in old buildings). Almost everyone who lives here moved here since the 80s, so there isn't a lot of solid food tradition.

Southwest Missouri is more "Southern" than Northwest Arkansas by most cultural reference points, but once you go north of Carthage it becomes rapidly less so.

And if you go directly south of there past the southern Arkansas border, you will find the state that ranks last in education but ranks in the top 10 for obesity, incest, and poverty.

Happy Saturday, swamp trash.

Actually a 2017 study by U.S. News ranked Louisiana High Schools at #42 and Missouri High Schools at #39. If that makes us swamp trash then I guess that makes you yankee garbage.

Well I can't recall you being a real jerk on the forums so I won't suggest you go down to Bottom's Up and spend some time with the feral stripper population of Fayetteville.

There are plenty of parks and nature trails I'd steer you to but this is probably the worst time of the year to see them. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting a craft brewery up there so if beer is your thing you can spend the entire trip in comfortable coma. Spend some time on Dickson Street but it won't be hopping like it is on a gameday weekend.

Crystal Bridges has world class art and is worth dropping by for a visit.

I don't know... NW Arkansas doesn't have a lot of must see spots or you have to eat here locations. Its just a really nice place to live, raise a family, and work. Its one of the best places to live in America, not sure about how exciting it is to visit outside of a gameday weekend.

Hope you have a good time.

And seriously. Don't go to Bottom's Up unless you have your shots.

Check out Hammontree's on Dickson. Right by all the bars and great food.

As someone else mentioned, Hugos, just off the square, has pretty good burgers. Woodstone pizza is pretty great if you like that. The other iconic type eatery around here is the Catfish Hole, but beware, lots of Hog Memorobelia.

If you like being outdoors, Devil's Den state park is nearby and is gorgeous. We have some pretty nice lakes around here as well, but they may be bone dry by now.

Another vote for Hugo's. I also recommend you dive 40 minutes to crystal bridges if you like art museum. That place is better than anyplace in New York.

Foghorns has 50 different flavors of wings if you like a lot of options to choose from lol. Like others have mentioned, Catfish Hole, Herman's and Hugo's are probably three of the most popular ones. Hammontrees is "gourmet grilled cheese" so it's a little unique.

Pesto Cafe for Italian.
Hugo's for burgers.
Sassys Red House or Whole Hog for BBQ.
Catfish Hole.
Powerhouse for seafood.
Foghorns for wings.

All in Fayetteville.

Oh, I forgot to plug my new favorite place. There is this little Mediterranean Street Food place on MLK called Meez and Kini. It's in the same building as Starbucks. If you like that sort of food, I don't think it's possible to find anything better for the money. Probably the best gyro I've ever had and the Fallafel is outstanding as well. The owners of that joint also own Amelia's, which is one of the finer restaurants in Fayetteville. So Meez and Kini is like the same fine food, but at regular lunch prices. Absolutely love it.

The Hammontrees mention made me thinkof it because they serve this thing called cheese burek which is unreal. It's like half a pound of artisan cheese blend on a puff pastry. Holy smokes.

on MLK

Just wanted to tell the barner visiting that our MLK doesn't have crime like most cities. Usually, you hear MLK Blvd. and you think of the potential of getting your head blown off. That crap doesn't happen in NWA.

Actually, to us old timers, it's Sixth Street. It wasn't named MLK until the past few years due to the pinko hippy commies in Fayetteville.

Seriously, OP, enjoy your stay here and spend plenty of money.
