To be fair, NO ONE controls their own destiny in regards to the CFB playoffs. You could have 5 undefeated P5 teams with conference championships; someone in that scenario doesn't get in.
As far as the SEC is concerned, yes, they control their own destiny.
There's no guarantee that Georgia makes it if they lose to LSU in the SECCG. The odds are good they're in, but it's not assured that UGA gets a spot.

No one has a more impressive resume than UT as a 1 lose team. If UT goes 11-1 they would get in. UT is 3-1 against teams in the CFP top 25 and 2-1 against the Top 10. And let me remind you, one of them wins only happens 4 weeks and on the road against the #7 team in the country.
Tennessee ain't getting in if LSU wins out. Bookmark it.
It's real simple path for LSU. Current rankings:
1 Georgia 9-0
2 Ohio State 9-0 - one of the B1G teams is guaranteed to lose
3 Michigan 9-0 - one of the B1G teams is guaranteed to lose
4 TCU 9-0 - will probably lose at least 1 game
5 Tennessee 8-1 - will be safely at home while UGA/LSU have an extra game in SECCG; and winner actually gets h/w
6 Oregon 8-1
7 LSU 7-2
LSU would jump the OSU/Mich loser.
LSU would jump 1-loss TCU.
LSU would absolutely jump an 'idle' Tennessee after SECCG.
Final standings:
1. OSU/Mich winner
2. UGA
3. Oregon
4. LSU

But would the committee really pick LSU?
Tenn would get that spot, Homer.

In 2016 Ohio St (11-1) got in over Penn St(11-2) even thought Penn St beat Ohio St and won the conference.
That was the biggest crock of shite in the history of the playoff.

Now if LSU beats Georgia it will be interesting who gets left out. Wouldn’t be surprised if Georgia is still in over lsu though.
Wasn’t the PSU win over OSU flukey? Like blocked punts or fumbles recovered for TD’s kind of win flukey? If so, I can understand talking the losing team.
If lsu were to win in not a weird way but a just barely outplayed them like we did against Bama, that’s an interesting discussion.

We control our destiny to the SECCG. That is all.

Right now, the only thing that LSU can control is making the SECCG. That is it.
LSU could make it if they manage to win the SEC title, but that is a big if at this moment. I think the committee would have some really interesting decisions to make should that happen.
If Tennessee wants to make it, then they have to hope that Georgia wins the SEC and that either TCU, Oregon, or USC drop a game or two. I don't see how Tennessee gets in if LSU somehow manages to beat UGA in SECCG.

So the sec runner up gets in but the champion won’t???? How fricking stupid are you???

Precedent gas been set. It’s not stupid at all

Tenn is out of the CFP, unless TCU, Oregon, and LSU all lose 1 more game.

>Oregon has a better resume than LSU.
week 1 FSU loss with a brand new coach shouldn't even factor in

The SEC winner will be in the playoffs... Period.

Has that precedent been set in the SEC?

Well yeah you simply can. The committee did the equivalent with Ohio St and Penn St in ‘16
The Penn State/Ohio State scenario was not the same, though.
Penn State had an OOC loss to a pretty bad Pitt team in a game that wasn’t nearly as close as the final score indicated.
LSU has an OOC loss in week 1 to an FSU team that had an extra week of practice and a tuneup game, and they are currently in the CFP top 25. Maybe this is a homer take, but I don’t think anyone believes LSU loses that game if it’s played week 2 - much less today.
Penn State beat Ohio State on a miracle blocked FG returned for a TD. We don’t know what circumstances would lead to LSU beating UGA.
Penn State beat Ohio State in October, not in a conference championship game that is often viewed as a play-in to the CFP.
And on top of all of that, the committee was widely criticized for putting Ohio State in over Penn State. And Ohio State went on to get shellacked 31-0 by Clemson in the CFP semis. Even if the scenario were the exact same, there’s no guarantee they would make the same decision today.
As others have said, I’ll be happy just to make it to Atlanta. I don’t think we have a great chance of beating UGA this year. But if we do, I find it incredibly hard to believe that the CFP committee would declare that UGA is a better team, immediately after LSU beat them in Atlanta.

If LSU beats UGA, a team that beat Oregon by 48, ....Lsu should get in before Oregon
Posted on 11/9/22 at 12:56 pm to clamdip
Except for the 40-13 hiccup you had on your home field. Do I think LSU deserves to be in if they win out? Absolutely! But will the committee see it the same way. I don’t think that FSU lose at neutral site hurts as much as the 40-13 lose on your home field just 4 weeks ago.

I just want LSU to make SEC title game, anything more than that is extra and no sense in even talking about until that point

I'd like to see LSU at least be competitive in that game, but even if we make it and get blown out, that's still one hell of a year 1.
Same. The way they're playing right now, I don't think they would get blown out but they could make it competitive. They've exceeded expectations thus far...if they were to beat UGA, I still don't see them getting in. There are too many other good teams ahead of them.
My guess is, LSU will wind up playing TCU in a NY6 bowl, if they stumble at Texas.

Funny you left out Ole Miss and Alabama. Hook is shiny

They are not going to put Tenn in over a two loss SEC champion because of one reason. LSU would have an extra game played over Tenn. UGA loses to LSU, they would get the nod over Tenn as a 3 seed. LSU would be a 4 seed. Does not matter until we beat UGA.
Also, Tenn you had your shot, all you had to do is beat UGA in their house. In 2019, LSU went into Bama's house and put it on them, so, you had your shot and blew it. You are out of the SEC Championship race at this point unless UGA stubs their toe, twice.
