I want four super conferences. Notre Dame has to be in one of the conferences. 16 or 18 programs in each. The playoffs consists of:

Conference Semifinals - 16
Conference Championship - 8
National Semifinals - 4
National Championship - 2

Bad for CFB, great for the bottom line.

Life is summarized in that relationship.

Just because Bama hasn’t won a non-COVID year national championship since 2017 doesn’t mean CFB is done.

True, everyone can openly buy players now, taking away from Bama’s historical advantage,

but it’s still fun to watch the games most of the time.

This is so true

I enjoy the parity we are seeing. Some of the innocence of college athletics is gone now that all the cards are on the table on who is paying who. It’s same as the Olympics. No true amateurs, lost some of its mystique but still entertaining.

It’s no longer college football. It’s semi-pro football where colleges and universities participate.

As someone who remembers why the BCS was created after FSU ran through the ACC and a single bowl game every season to "win" national championships

Your memory failed you, the bcs had nothing to do with fsu and everything to do with the rose bowl big/pac alliance. The bowl coalition was already in place pre bcs to get two highest ranked non big/pac teams to play each other. This was glaringly obvious as mich ducked Nebraska in the 97 title game marking end of coalition era.

The people making the decision did not even consider what is best for the sport. They considered what the most money in their pocket… plain and simple.

Top teams are paying out a lot of money to get top players these days. Not what it used to be like.

FAT SEXY
Thinking about the sport long term here..

How would anyone know until we do it? National Champions in college football are not coming from the unwashed. People can howl as much as they like but the same teams that were winning championships during the BCS are winning championships during the 10-year 4-team playoff and now 16 teams.

IF we ever go to 2 superconferences, it will include all the teams that have won a championship this century. What's the big deal?

CFB is pretty much done.

Nah. It's evolving to where a dozen schools can't hoard all the talent.

Adapt or die.

This. About 130 teams in d1 and somewhere around the fifty mark there is a steep, steep drop off in available resources. The gap between an Ohio state and a Texas tech is much closer than the resource gap between Texas tech and directional Michigan, Idaho, New Mexicos Troy western Kentucky etc.

Of course they can. They just pay for it now.

Do you see a bunch of fresh faces in this talent composite index:

1 Alabama
2 Georgia
3 Ohio State
4 Texas
5 Clemson
6 Oregon
7 Oklahoma
8 LSU
9 Notre Dame
10 Texas A&M
11 Penn State
12 Florida

I'd assume it's just replacing early rounds of the playoffs with conference/division games, like in most other sports other than college basketball and football today.

What exactly is this?
They have to be ranked in the Top 12 for them to get in.
