Not being a BB person, how important are these rankings at this point in the season?

Rankings aren't important at all in reality as they don't decide the tournament.

Really just important in that they reflect the view around the country of how good the SEC is this year.
More important is that they also mainly coincide with the NET rankings the committee uses to determine quality wins and choose/seed the tournament.

Unanimous number one.
We missed being unanimous in the coaches’ poll by one vote because some doorknob still voted for ISU, but bama was third and I think that’s correct.

Laughable.
I wonder how many times Alabama and Auburn have both been ranked in the Top 4 in football? I bet it's not a whole lot.
2014 Week 10 - #3 Auburn, #4 Alabama
2014 Week 9 - #3 Alabama, #4 Auburn
2013 Week 15 - #2 Auburn, #3 Alabama
2013 Week 14 - #3 Auburn, #4 Alabama

Yep - week after Iron Bowl and week after SECCG + the first CFP Rankings of 2014 are the only years I can find since 1980.
Crazy.

Kinda surprised Iowa State held onto #3 with the loss to WVU.
Admittedly it wasn't a terrible loss, but still kinda surprised.
