Maybe because it's a State school that the tax payers of poor blue coller working men and women paid for who didn't have the means to get a college education but are sending their children there to better themselves! You Sorry arse I'm better than you because I went to a school with a football team!

That struck a nerve.

Yep how stupid to comment that you shouldn't cheer for a team because you didn't go to the school.

How about you shouldn't cheer for a team because you never played football for that team. You have no ties to the team just like a person who never went to the school has no ties to the school!

Foreign kid comes to America goes to Texas A&m finds out about football fall in love with it ends up graduating from A&m. Texas boy raised to love A&m and everything that is Aggie football but graduates from UofH. You're telling me the guy who just discovered football has more right of passage just because he furthered his education at Texas A&m ?

Yes.

The foreign kid is forever tied to the A&M brand. The other kid is tied to the UH brand and has no penalties for switching his allegiance if UH gets in the Big 12 or something like that.

You need a qualifier in there. Other options include " 4-loss DC" or "DC, that lost to ND's back up,"...

Indeed. Loyalties can shift over the years but most folks tend to stay true to their alma mater.

As an example, I was born in Alabama and grew up when Bear Bryant was worshiped as a living God in the South. Naturally I cheered for the Tide, even when we moved to the Midwest for a decade. Arkansas was only my second or third favorite team at the time.

I wound up getting my degree from Arkansas and until recently lived in Fayetteville, the center of our porcine cult. I'm about as solid a Hog fan as you will find. Alabama, the team I followed when I was younger, is just another college team to me now, and not even one I particularly like. I'll cheer for them against a non-SEC opponent most of the time but that is about it.

You tend to be loyal to your school. Hell, I still cheer for Southern Illinois University for the three booze and sex filled semesters I spent there.

I personally don’t find it as weird as people who brag about the football accomplishments of a University that they never actually attended. These same people have the notion that being born into the same state, or being born into a family of graduates, gives them a legitimate claim to that success.

Maybe that is weird because every Aggie fan I know, from billionaires to poor college kids, have a real tie to A&M.

Yeah, agree. Hate that Sarge mofo.

If you didn't attend the school, you're a sidewalk fan. And there is nothing wrong with that or cheering for the schools teams. You just have a different experience than actual students.

I can understand the bragging. I mean. When you have so little to ride on..you got to pick some kind of dick. The Aggies choose this one.

I used dick because talking about the Aggies obviously.

Frankly I don’t mind people being fans. It’s when sidewalkers want to take personal pride in the accomplishments of the team, throw the word “we” around, and act like they are a better person than me the actual college graduate because a team that was in the state they were born in has a winning streak against my team.

I would figure LSU fans could understand that.

This is dumb, honestly.

One of the biggest LSU fans and boosters I know never attended a single class at LSU largely because back then he didn't have the means to.

But now that he does, he gives generously to the school and TAF, and attends every home and away football game without exception.

You don't need a diploma to be a fan; that's some smug, elitist bs.

I'm more concerned with how you act while being a fan than what diploma is hanging on your wall.

There's a lot of things a whole lot weirder. You must not spend a lot or time on the internet.

When I was a little kid and Arkansas was in the SWC, my brother professed that he like the Aggies. A few years later he decided he liked girls instead.
