No, not really. Alabama obviously is the best program in the SEC, but people on this board don’t give Auburn credit (either trolling or ignorant) for the program we’ve maintained over the years. I think this is also due to auburn having quite low lows (2012) and inconsistent years (2008, 2015, 2020) when expected to be good.

Yep. Auburn is also just a better program than Oklahoma State. Auburn would give OU a hard time as well if they met every year
Auburn gets underrated because they live in Alabama’s shadow, but there’s nothing “little brother” about the caliber of program down in AUB. The fact that Alabama can make great programs like Auburn and LSU feel like little underdogs ultimately says alot more about Alabama, than those teams

It is proof that AU can compete regardless who is the coach. AUs leadership has hired some cheap up and coming coaches, who find success and get a big contract, then fired after their true coaching abilities are exposed.

Didn’t play between 1907 and 1948 when Alabama would’ve probably won 2 out of every 3 games.
This. If not for a 41 year series break, the split is heavily in Bama's favor.

Auburn had a lead in the series before bear got to bama.
Auburn is either even, or one game behind, since bear.
bear is the one who did all of the damage against Auburn.

Bull shite answer. AU was a power thru the late teens and early 20s. Plus the program lost momentum because of a lack of an instate rival, who knows how it would have changed things.

It doesn't get any more gump than this.

Since we are playing the “what if” game…what if the series hadn’t been on hiatus for 41 years? Alabama was a very dominant program during those years. Auburn was average to below average.

The fact that AU-UA co-exist in the SEC and the Auburn has kept the W-L record close and also has given Saban more fits than anyone else shows you can have a competitive healthy rivalry.
It is why I get sick of hearing Aggies cry on this board about Texas and joining the SEC. Suck it up and start doing something about it. Bama may dominate but Auburn has never rolled over to Bama and been their bitch. No matter how much a Bryant or Saban might try and bully them, they always rise up and punch back. Aggies should look to them as an example.

Alibi: I was not really comparing Auburn to Okie Lite…it is obvious that Auburn is a much more accomplished program. More conference titles, more national titles, more Heisman winners, etc.
I just think from the casual to even decently aware college football viewer that most just assume Auburn gets their shite pushed most years. That was true in the Bryant era. Basically been a dead heat since Bryant.

Let's play this. What if the IB was at a true neutral site..............instead of Legion Field where bama played most home games except homecoming?
quote:
Well into the 1980s, Alabama played most of its important games, as well as the Iron Bowl, at Legion Field—to the point that most of Alabama's "home" football history from the 1920s to the 1980s took place in Birmingham.
quote:
Until 1998, Alabama played at least three games at Legion Field every season
quote:
Auburn also used Legion Field for some home games well into the 1970s due to the larger capacity
neutral site my arse.

I mean, there's truth there. From 1908-1947, Bama was the 2nd winningest program in the country and never had a losing season. Auburn was 41st.

I’m more surprised at how close the Mizzou-KU series is.

with a lot of 6-3 and 5-2 mixed in there.
ETA do a quick search on how many of saban's NC teams lost to Auburn. Auburn has gone toe-to-toe with bama except for the bear era. Those are the cold hard facts...........no "what if's"

That’s why my theory is that Alabama would’ve probably won 2 out of every 3. Alabama wouldn’t have won 35-40 games in that period like some imagine. They’d probably have won 26-30 of the games though. I think that is a reasonable guess given the performance over the period. It is all hypothetical and doesn’t really matter because it will never happen in this universe.
Posted on 8/7/21 at 12:47 pm to Diego Ricardo
It’s impossible to know in this “what if”, but I’d wager Alabama would have an additional 5-10 game lead in the series.

I don’t think it’s any different than MSU / Ole Miss. It’s a crap shoot every time and whoever has the better team rarely means squat.
Rivalry games tend to do that.
