Anyone else not really care that much about recruiting? (re:Collins)

I mean don't get me wrong, I care in the sense that we need to pull down top 10 classes every year and I'm obviously happy when I hear about a big commit. But I have friends that are freaking the frick out right now over one high school kid. Now I realize he's a highly rated player and I don't like to see Louisiana kids that we're recruiting go to other SEC West teams, but some of these LSU fans need to get a grip. Maybe he'll be the next Ronnie Lott or maybe he'll be the next Marcus Dupree. I have no idea but I don't get the obsessing over it to such an extent.

The next Marcus (Marquiz) Dupree went to Alabama. It didn't work out.

It's not something worth getting riled up over

I get excited but at the same time I've seen enough flops (Newton) and enough guys come from nowhere (Cobb). I think it generally averages out, though.

You should have put that in the context of Kentucky basketball recruiting.

You just really can't compare basketball and football recruiting though. They couldn't be more different.
eta: And FWIW, I probably care more about football recruiting than basketball.

I was disappointed for about 20 seconds
With almost any recruit, regardless of their "ranking" there are 30 or more that have the potential to be just as good at the college level.

Agreed. For every Julio or AJ Green (highly regarded recruit that worked out), there's a Mo C. or TM7 or Ingram (3* or so) that ends up being a stud.
Annually top 5 teams have to keep bringing in highly ranked classes because you just increase your chances of someone working out. Chances are you're gonna get more studs out of 20 4* than 20 2*.
So, I agree, no reason to get riled up over one or two kids, but an entire class.....feel free to complain

lol of course you don't care Draconian. If you didn't care, you wouldn't have made this thread.

In football not really. Love getting studs, but majority of the time it's the 4*'s or the 3*'s that end up being studs because of the talent and the hunger. Think Tyrann, Mo Claiborne, RG3, Andrew Luck, Glenn Dorsey, Mark Ingram and so on. Don't get me wrong there are some guys that are just absolute studs and they pan out like Trent Richardson, Matt Barkley, Patrick Peterson, AJ Green, Julio Jones but there are a ton of Darrell Scott, Bryce Brown, Vidal Hazelton and so fourth players that just never pan out. I'm a bigger believer in coaching staffs.

I disagree with you. This is the first big time recruit that LSU wanted really bad that Saban took from La.

I could care less. I'm going to root for the guys that have on my teams uniform...no need to worry about things until they get that far. IMHO
But, whatever floats a guys boat is cool w/ me.

Losing Trovon Reed doesn't seem like such a big deal now, does it?

If a 'Bama fan made this thread than LSU fans would be total frickasses saying "of course you don't care about recruiting, you didn't get [insert name]"
The op is right. LSU will have a good class and their program is doing well.
With that said, the op would also be one of those shitty LSU posters that would bash the 'Bama poster for posting the same thread. So, hypocrite.

I know what you mean, I would have loved to seen the kid come to LSU but you never know about these recruits and their "star" ratings. There are 5 stars all over the nation that don't live up to the hype and there are 3 star players that end up being all Americans. And don't even let me get started on the Horns and all of their top 5 classes that they didn't do a damn thing with. It really doesn't matter, all of these kids being recruited by the top programs are great athletes and no one really knows what kind of play makers they will be in the next 2-3 years.

You saying that is highly ironic.
