Anyone else ever get surprised Tennessee still go by the Lady Vols for Women's Sports?

Seems in this day and age, feminist groups would be attacking it as "the patriarchy", "toxic masculinity" and "reinforcing traditional gender roles". From my knowledge, Tennessee is the only SEC school left that add the lady term in front of their official mascot term.

And while their logo is most similar, it does have it's differences, especially with the blue mixed in with the orange.

For the Tennessee fans here, is the "Lady Vols" term something you all still embrace? Has there ever been any push to remove the lady term and just call both the men's and women's teams the Vols?

As long as people remember Pat Summit, that's not going to change.

They tried that for a while but people pitched a fit so they changed back.

I thought Arkansas called their teams the LadyBacks... or at least they used to.

I haven't heard anyone refer to Arkansas' women's teams at the "LadyBacks" in like 25 years. I looked it up, they phased out the "LadyBack" term in 2008.

I know Florida used to unofficially call their women's team the "Lady Gators", but the "lady" term was never officially added. Again, it's probably been 20 years since I heard a Florida fan call their women's team the "Lady Gators".

LSU for a long time did use the "Lady Tigers" name, but again it was always unofficial and only for certain women's sports. Like Florida, there was never a different official logo like there is for the Tennessee "Lady Vols". It's also probably been 20 years since I've heard the "Lady Tigers" name for an LSU women's team.

And to clarify, I'm not against it. I'm glad the Tennessee fans fought back. Sounds like if they hadn't, it would've gone away for the Lady Vols as well. I'm just surprised, in this current political environment and with feminism and all the "me too" stuff, that Tennessee has managed to keep the Lady Vols term without some group or their own women student athletes trying to throw a hissy fit about it.
