I have a wedding Saturday. They’re having to get a $4000 tent rental now. Ooofff

Tent rental seems like the opposite of what you should do with a major hurricane approaching.

Take that 4k and rent a building.

We need rain just in case some LSU fan tries to burn something down again.

11 AM ET NHC update: Hurricane Ian has increased to 70-knots and is now firing on all cylinders w/Rapid Intensification underway.

Apex is 120-knots = strong Category 4.

Big problem is storm surge as Ian slows to a crawl and piles up water including 5-10 feet+ in Tampa Bay.

Florida will be inundated w/heavy rainfall. Hurricane Ian

Widespread 6-12" of rainfall across the Peninsula. But where Ian "stalls out" or "crawls up coast" will determine if heavy rain bands bombard the coast for hours, could add up to 1-2 feet from Sarasota to Citrus County

As Hurricane Ian slowly approaches the Florida coast, the storm will be enveloped by dry air at middle levels. However, Ian will be too strong for the cold front and shear to knock it down fast enough.

For the last several days, we've been waiting for model agreement as Ian got closer to Florida. Today, we have that. The GFS and Euro are basically on top of each other putting Ian just west of Tampa. Shifts of this track, can and will change. We'll see if they stay together.

This 12z run of ECMWF HiRes drops Ian by 20 mb after reaching Gulf of Mexico with sub-950 mb storm minimum.

The stalling track offshore hopefully will keep area of 20"-40" away from Florida.

Also, hurricane force winds may remain confined to the coast as Ian meanders far enough offshore.

However, if eyewall scrapes the coast, then a serious threat for 100-mph+ gusts.

Dangerous surge can't be avoided.

No concern for the A&M-State game in Starkville, but I am slightly concerned as to what this will do to flight schedules on Friday. Delta is the only airline that flies to GTR, all flights connecting through Atlanta, so there is some chance that the storm could impact ATL on Friday, but I'm cautiously optimistic that it won't be too bad. Even if ATL doesn't get hit much, disrupting flights in Florida could have cause some ripples throughout the system.
