Hypotheticals? I'd hope another person in the room/area would pick up the gun and shoot the bastard.

For some reason I doubt someone on a shooting rampage would stop to pick up another gun. I think he/she would have brought enough.

You are a hypocrite.

You are slow.

There would be a few and they'd do more harm than good.

"hide, and hope not to get involved".

95% of people would do this, but the other 5% would be emboldened by that little 9mil on their hip or ankle. Neither would likely end well.

Yes, there's a .01% it could, but odds are just more chaos.

But what happened to the 15 people shooting guns in a firefight?

Now it's just 5%?

Apparently the shooter isn't going to stop if it's an obviously armed person LIKE A COP either.

True- until he is shot.

Crazy person is crazy.
True.

Look, don't get me wrong, I have several guns myself. But my point is that the solution to every shooting isn't "GIVE EVERY MORON A frickING GUN!!!"
Nobody gives you anything in this world. I don't believe he implied you should force everyone to arm themselves.

The police are some of the most vehemently in favor of the gun laws.

There is no way to determine this. Being a cop doesn't automatically make someone anti-gun. For every anti-gun cop in these parts you will likely find many more who are not. That is usually a mindset they already had before they became LEOs.

The point is this: A person on a shooting rampage ignores that little sign that says "gun free zone". The students and teachers are sitting ducks for him/her.

Here are some stats. I just pulled some out of thin air and the rest out of my arse. I hope you enjoy them. They prove I'm right and you're wrong.

You're giving up basic survival instincts. Fight for your chance to live. It's basic nature. I'll be damned if I'm about to die I don't try and survive.

... You've got a room full of people, we'll say 30, how many would you think would go running towards the gunfire? If you say more than 5 you're kidding yourself.

I'm against it. I'll leave it at that. I have no problem carrying a gun, but I don't want to have to at school.

Actually there's little correlation between tighter gun laws and lower murder rates. Canada has some of the loosest gun laws in the world and also one of the lowest murder rates. Brazil, on the other hand, has extremely strict gun laws and one of the highest murder rates.

The bottom line is criminals don't care what gun laws are in place, just like what we've seen today on the VT campus. Firearms are not allowed on the school grounds, and nearly everyone followed that rule, except the criminal. So now you have hundreds of defenseless students.

I'm not advocating everyone owning a gun, but I do believe that having the strictest gun laws available results in leaving the innocent vulnerable to attacks.

Ok enough hijacking! I'm as guilty as anyone else. Innocent people are dying right now because some nutjob has a gun.

Let's focus our thoughts and prayers on our fellow Americans and human beings at Virginia Tech.

They deserve all of our good wishes right now.

At least you aren't just completely fabricating statistics.

No, but you seem to think that one armed person could successfully put down an armed person in a high pressure situation with no real training to do so. Ever had to shoot with your adrenaline through the roof, people being shot, people screaming and running everywhere? You are also assuming shooter doesn't have any kevlar etc on...

You don't really have a clue what you're talking about. I'm sorry to be a dick, but its the truth. I'm not saying we need more gun laws, but we don't need armed 20 yr old trigger happy ROTC idiots either.

But as of right now NO ONE can carry on campus. I've been in the military, have been trained for high pressure situations, and I still can't carry a gun on a campus. A lot of people have been trained.

What state can a 20 yr old carry a gun? I thought it was 21 everywhere.

Pretty sure it's 18 here in GA.

I know, but does that mean I'm going to carry a gun with me everywhere. No. I've got permits and probably a hell of a lot more training than CNB. Would I ever carry a gun into a school? No. There are just so many things that could go wrong.
