That season still gets in my crawl. We had a great team. If Pop came back for his senior year we'd of won it all.

That 94 team was pretty good. Wasnt that the year Barker won the Unitas award?

Do you have actual proof of cheating by Alabama players? And don’t show me pictures of players standing in front of cars, because all that says is that you believe players and their families are incapable of buying cars.

Maybe he's so poor that he thinks a charger is uber expensive or something. Let's take it easy on the welfare case.

You should try again as well. You forgot 79. And technically the 78 title was won on new years day 1979 against penn state.

It was really good. And, yes, Barker won the Unitas, SEC Player of the Year and was a Heisman finalist, but it was a bit of a career award year for him.

Had they won the SEC CG, I think that team and the Stallings/Oliver toughness and discipline on D would have given them a great shot at that Nebraska team.

Alabama's historical success is built on being a blue blood and then being lucky enough to have two GOAT coaches.

Bama football wasn't born into a status of football royalty.

They created and sustained it. Primarily, the "Game That Changed The South" (1926 Rose Bowl) turned the "tide" for how southern football would be perceived nationally and is where Bama's blue blood status began.

They'd play in 6 Rose Bowls and go 4-1-1 in them before finally the Pac and Big would make it exclusive.

Denny leveraged football success to build a national brand and increase out of state recruiting. Had he not pissed off Wade, he would have likely retired from Bama as well known for success as Bryant and Saban. To be fair, Thomas replaced Wade and he was hardly a slouch. 2 x undefeated seasons, no losing seasons and 3rd best win % all time at Bama as he built off of Wade's base at kept it going. He played for Rockne and coached Bear Bryant. He died relatively young, or he too may have gone on to do much more.

Both he and Wade are HoF coaches like Bryant, Stallings and Saban (one day).

Bottom line, Bama has an established history of football success. The 2 x GOAT CFB HCs left their mark, but it has history beyond those 2. It built and sustained success for a century with only 2 x decades (50s and 00s) with any period of mediocrity to bad football.

Bama will inevitably take a step back post-GOAT. And, another 50s/00s will certainly come at some point. But, the program will sustain success in the long run.

So if the playing field isn't even, what is LSU doing to make things even?

I think Saban built the LSU program up enough that it was on an even playing field with Alabama and other elite programs from 2002 or so on, of course then he came back to Alabama and started dominating everyone.

How do you figure? Alabama won three consensus titles in your time frame.

Between Bear and Nick, for over 25 years, Alabama had one magical season. And I must admit it was fun watching them pound down Miami. And Stallings really was a hell of a coach. But besides that they were essentially a nondescript program living off past glory.

In 2000, when Saban arrived LSU was by the estimation of The Football Warehouse, the 14th best program in CFB history. That means lots of 8-3's and 9-2's sprinkled in with a national championship and a great run from 1958-1973 and some SEC titles and bowl games and a wasteland period for the first half of the 90's.

LSU, of course has most-recently won 3 national championships in a 17 year period and played for another. All while being the only team to play Alabama, Florida and Auburn (10 national championships between them in that span) EVERY year. And of course LSU also won championships with 3 consecutive coaches which has never been done in the SEC. I'd say LSU is now up to somewhere around 7-9 as all time great programs now because of that 2 decade run.

When Saban leaves the odds are they return to good but not great status until that find that next generational coach. Those guys don't grow on trees. CFB fans can bluster about history all they want, but coaching is everything, and you have to find that guy and he has to stay and build his own program. Just ask Miami, Florida State, Florida, Texas, USC, Michigan, Penn State etc. The cfb landscape is littered with used-to-be-programs living off the past.

I agree with you, my thing is I just find it funny so many posters come on here to complain about trivial things as the playing field being uneven, when that falls on their coach and program. Also, LSU has more talent in the NFL than most conferences combined so how big is the talent disparity between them and Bama

The talent disparity on the OL over the last decade has been gigantic. On the DL post 2012 it has usually been significant. LSU has really lacked depth. And while neither has been great at QB-LSU has been horrific minus 4 years. Other than that it's been pretty comparable. Alabama just has not had the weak units (other than kickers) that LSU has had.

Both have been ridiculously stacked at WR, RB, LB and DB.
