There in lies the problem I think. Its a matter of exposure to the state in question. I've lived in Florida and Arkansas (quite a few other places as well) and while there is certainly no shortage of lousy places in Arkansas I can assure you that Florida has no great shortage of lousiness down there.

Meanwhile you have Hawaii ranked number one because people only see Hawaii on vacation. I have had friends who lived there and they are united in declaring the state a festering pile of crap. Everything is super expensive, there is no, and I do mean no, housing, and the native Hawaiians loathe whites and Asians.

Who wants to live in a tropical paradise if 2+ grand a month in rent gets you an apartment the same size as the walk in closet at my old place? Unless you are a multimillionaire or stationed on a military base its a horrible place to live.

I frequent Louisiana often for work all over the state. I can attest that your state is night and day from Alabama. Not just the obvious infrastructure issues but overall living circumstances in general.

There are literally endless things to do in Alabama: the mountains, the beaches, fishing, hunting, hiking, camping, biking, college sports, concerts, plays (live theatre), shopping, great restaurants, world class museums, …… the list goes on.

Why does the entire state of Louisiana leave Louisiana to vacation on Alabama’s beautiful beaches if there is ‘nothing to do’ in Alabama?

I no longer live in Alabama, but I'd be happy about this if I did. Hell, Texas and Florida (where I live) are being inundated with North Easterners and Cali people, not to mention the refugees from all the other yankee states. These fricking people, by and large, are rude, opinionated, liberal pricks. They wouldn't enjoy their lives in Alabama too much.
