The defense from Gamecock fans seems to be just the angle / lighting of the pic. Saying that due to the height of the football players / the upward angle it is slightly shot at can give that look of people seeming shorter and chubbier than they actually are.
I'm no photographer so I have no idea if that is true but all practice / voluntary workout reports all say that Alshon is at all of them so who knows.

First off, those tight jerseys don't do him any justice. Second, he's always looked that way. He is 240, guys. And still the best WR in the country.

Not only has he been to all the workouts, he's been leading them too. Along with Latt and Garcia.
