What it looked like at the conclusion of the 2007 season (national rank in parentheses):
1. Alabama- 612 (#8)
2. Tennessee- 563 (#9)
3. Florida- 484 (#11)
4. Auburn- 472 (#13)
5. Georgia- 458 (#14)
6. LSU- 454 (#15)
Tennessee was 2nd in the SEC by a wide margin, and nationally just one ranking spot below Alabama.
This is what it looks like today:
1. Alabama- 834 (#5)
2. Florida- 641 (#10)
3. LSU- 640 (#11)
4. Georgia- 622 (#12)
5. Auburn- 600 (#13)
6. Tennessee- 588 (#14)
Tennessee has fallen from a clear #2 in the SEC to last of the Big 6, and the separation grows with each passing week.
Number of Weeks Ranked Since start of the 2008 season:
1. Alabama- 222 (#1)
2. LSU- 186 (#3)
3. Georgia- 164 (#7)
4. Florida- 157 (#8)
5. Auburn- 128 (#13)
6. Texas A&M- 111 (#21)
7. S. Carolina- 76 (#30)
8. Ole Miss- 66 (#33)
9. Mississippi St.- 63 (#34)
10. Missouri- 60 (#37)
11. Arkansas- 47 (#42)
12. Tennessee- 25 (#55)
13. Kentucky- 18 (#59)
14. Vanderbilt- 6 (#88)
Oof. Watch out Vols, if Kentucky finishes out the season ranked in every AP Poll, they'll tie you up since 2008, meaning only Vanderbilt would be ranked in fewer AP poll releases over a 14-year period.

Heupel has them back on track, now.
Things are gonna be different, now.

We've been historically bad lately? As a fan of the program, I had no idea.

Will they be though? They play Bama and @ LSU next year along with a road game @ Pitt.... along with the usuals in the East (Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, etc.)
They are likely looking at 8-4 at absolute best. Not sure they sneak into the AP Poll anytime soon, certainly not this year and possibly not next year.
Meanwhile that gap just keeps on growing.

Shows how similar both programs actually are (regardless of whether LSU fans want to admit it or not).

Big Four. Large dropoff after this group.

Bama’s #5 with 834, but UF is #2 with 641? And LSU is #11 with 640?
What?

Fixed.
Should have been #10.
Should have been #10.

And there's a big drop off from Alabama (18 claimed/22 total) to Tennessee (6 claimed/14 total) in terms of national titles, then another big drop to the little four.

No one... And I mean literally no one... believes Tennessee has somewhere between 6 and 14 national titles. That's some Ole Miss-level fiction right there.

Buddy, it isn't my fault that your middle school education prevents you from properly analyzing a list of schools awarded national titles by NCAA-sanctioned major selectors.

Some of y'all claim 6 on here.

Vols are only listed for 7 in the NCAA records book, not 14.

Apparently there are 8 other seasons where some publication gave them their vote for the NC. Had to actually look it up but it's 1914, 1927, 1928, 1931, 1939, 1956, 1985, and 1989 though UT doesn't claim these
