Yeah but didn't they have multiple final 4s in the 40s etc or is Wikepedia working me over?
Making a Final Four when you only have to win one game because the entire tournament was 8 teams doesn’t carry the same weight IMO.
It’s a little different when your talking an expanded field in the modern era, requiring several wins against high quality teams.

Not much, but more than nothing.
Coach Eaves had some good teams in 1950s-early 1960s.
A lefty in the 1930s later won a National Championship as a football coach.
Erk Russell was the last 4 sport letterman when he played football, basketball, baseball, and track.
In the 1970s, Eddie Johnson and Mike Mitchell were good players on bad teams.

It’s pretty incredible how bad we are at basketball. You would have thought we’d occasionally luck out into having a good team but nope. Just pure shite.

Auburn doesnt have any time for your luck.

Florida goes 2 for me for the simple fact that back to back national titles in basketball is extremely difficult to accomplish.

Well that is quantifiably wrong. LSU is outside the top three in all of the following categories and outside the top 5 in most of them:
All time wins
All time winning percentage
Regular season conference titles
Conference tournament titles
NCAA appearances
Sweet 16 appearances
Elite 8 apperances
Final four appearances
National championships

I sometimes just like typing out these stats for Kentucky, but it has been a minute since they have had success in the postseason:
-8 NCAA Tournament Championships (5 different coaches have been able to lead UK to the Promised Land)…I’ve been fortunate to witness 3 of the 8.
-UK owns the best winning percentage of any team at .760 and is second to Kansas for all-time wins
-4 NCAA Runner-Ups
-17 Final Fours
-38 Elite Eights
-45 Sweet Sixteens
-2nd most NCAA Tournament wins at 131 (hopefully they pass UNC this year who has 132)

Added some items and also changed to NCAAt invites. Arkansas had an invitation to one NCAAt that they were forced to withdraw from because of a team vehicle accident.
Picking between Florida and Arkansas is really cutting hairs. Neither is too close to Kentucky, but those two are also quite a ways ahead of the rest of the SEC. There could be an argument made for both really. Do you value sustained success over a period of program history, or do you value a period of success since 2000? Neither answer can be wrong in my opinion.

The Florida v Arkansas ranking is right but it is ever so close
The greatest thing about last years Final Four was getting to leave the "long tortured" club of teams that never made a final four (honestly just making the Elite Eight again and outrunning our horrible, horrible, HORRIBLE sweet 16 record)
Missouri and Tennessee are now the most tortured basketball fanbases in the SEC. The argument I would make for Missouri over Tennessee is Mizzou has more conference championships and more elite eight appearances but it's millimeters between these two teams

All schools who are proud of their basketball programs had multiple final fours in the early eras of their programs history.

Adding Texas puts them probably 4th and OU 5th.
I think the nattys for Florida and Ark put them ahead for sure.
Texas is 2nd in all time wins in conference (14th in all NCAA) 3rd in Win % all time (31st all time in NCAA) and has 3rd most NCAA game appearances.

You could also look at how many NBA players are from SEC schools but Kentucky would just embarrass everyone.
