Its a combo argument of USC, Texas, and LSU and it really depends on what you value.
If its the last 40 years its hands down LSU.
If you just care about titles its USC.
If you want to focus on consistency for the entire sports existence its Texas.
Its really as simple as that. Given most of us are prisoners of the moment LSUs last title looks to give them a decided edge. However, I love hearing on this board how non-LSU/TX fans think about it.

The early days of college World Series were squirrelly. It was more of an invitational. In 1961, LSU was 20-5 but not invited to a regional (then called districts). Meanwhile Texas was 22-6 yet hosted a regional with only 1 other team
Yes. This is why championships and CWS appearances from the 1940s and 1950s are highly discounted in this model.
Should they be completely ignore? No. Discounted? Yes.

Not just the 2 more titles.
It’s the consistent level of excellence that LSU has had over every single program (including Texas) over the last 40 years.
Since 1985:
No one is disputing LSU’s dominance since 1985. But read the words of your statement….. the sport didn’t begin in the 1980s. These are ALL TIME rankings.
Through 1984, LSU had never made it to Omaha.
At that time, Texas has made 23 trips to the CWS, played in the Championship Game/Series 7 times, and won the National Title 4 times.
At that time, USC had made 17 trips to Omaha… played for the Championship 12 times, and won the title 11 times.
Glossing over all this as circumstantial and not worthy of being factored is shortsighted.
Despite the hole to climb out of, I show LSU has passed USC and is in striking distance of Texas.

I have all time rankings for Football, Basketball, and Baseball that completely rely on data. This isn’t about LSU despite what you Cajuns want to think.

This is exactly correct. And it’s fine to debate which factors are most important. The people who are on here acting as if there’s no debate look like idiots.

Why do you constantly feel the need to start these kind of threads with your fruity arse metrics? We have 8 national titles and it's awesome and I don't give a frick about anyone or anything else.

Do these rankings consider different time frames? For instance, where did Alabama baseball tank when Jim Wells retired in 2009? It was a pretty solid program at that point.

100% agree and I have really enjoyed hearing from non LSU / TX fanbases here.
The people on here saying there is no debate are 90%+ LSU fans and prisoners of the moment

You clicking on the thread and bothering to respond says otherwise.

I flew into Austin for the series this year with my UT buddies and felt like I was seeing real college baseball, that's for sure.

Glad you enjoyed it. I think everyone will like it even more when we change back to grass in a few years.

Did you not read the part about recency being weighted more heavily?
Mizzou hasn’t reached the CWS in over 60 years. When they won their national title in 1954, they played Lafayette, UMass, and Rollins College. This is not the same as the gauntlet it takes to win a title today. Nor is it the same as making the CWS. Mizzou went straight to Omaha that season without playing any regional or super regional games despite having a loss that year to Fort Leonard Wood and beating teams like Sedalia Air Force Base.
This should not score the same as a modern day trip to Omaha.
Sure.
But a trophy is a trophy.
Auburn had 1957 as part of the phone number to their ticket sales office forever; age didn't seem to diminish the amount of importance they put on winning the AP title way back then.

Yep
Arguing GOAT status is a waste of time in any sport

The best way to present this type of data that changes over time would be to break it down in intervals of the last X years so the consumer of the data can see the change over time.
Show the ranking over the last 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, etc... years. You could do 10 year intervals if you don't want to go every 5.

Yes. I show through 2009, Bama was #30 all-time at that point, and 10th among the current 16 SEC programs. Since then, I show they’ve fallen 8 spots down to #38.
Teams Bama has Jumped ahead of since 2010:
(Showing Bama’s 2020-2025 resume for comparison)
Alabama (8 NCAA’s, 2 SR’s, 0 CWS, 0 NT)
St. Johns’s (7 NCAA’s, 1 SR, 0 CWS, 0 NT)
Ohio St. (3 NCAA’s,0 SR, 0 CWS, 0 NT
Teams that have Passed Bama since 2010:
(Showing Bama’s 2020-2025 resume for comparison)
Alabama (8 NCAA’s, 2 SR’s, 0 CWS, 0 NT)
Vanderbilt (15 NCAA’s, 9 SR’s, 5 CWS, 2 NT)
Virginia (12 NCAA’s, 8 SR’s, 6 CWS, 1 NT)
UCLA (11 NCAA’s, 5 SR’s, 4 CWS, 1 NT)
Ole Miss (11 NCAA’s, 4 SR’s, 4 CWS, 1 NT)
Tennessee (6 NCAA’s, 5 SR’s, 3 CWS, 1 NT)
Louisville (11 NCAA’s, 8 SR’s, 5 CWS, 0 NT)
TCU (12 NCAA’s, 7 SR’s, 5 CWS, 0 NT)
Texas A&M (13 NCAA’s, 6 SR’s, 4 CWS, 0 NT)
NC State (13 NCAA’s, 4 SR’s, 3 CWS, 0 NT)
Auburn (8 NCAA’s, 4 SR’s, 2 CWS, 0 NT)
So in summary, since Jim Wells left, Bama has jumped ahead of 2 programs, fallen behind 10, for a net drop of 8 spots.

Different sport entirely. Football was way further established in the 1950s compared to baseball…. Evidenced by fan attendance statistics, television, bowl games, and a national rating system like thr AP that initiated in 1936.
Queen Elizabeth attended a college football game in 1957. Nixon went to a #1 vs #2 Texas vs Arkansas game in the ‘60s. There was giant interest in those days.
Baseball through about the 1970s looked about like middle school baseball does today. Few teams took it serious, and there were almost no games played during the regular season outside of conference games and teams located within a 100 mile radius… so evaluating who the best teams to invite to the CWS was basically a guess.
The 1954 CWS averaged 2,500 fans in attendance per game. Things just weren’t the same back then as they are now.

Southern Cal has only made 2 ncaa tournaments in the last 20 years.
