Lane’s a very good college football coach. He’s also a childish, petty, arrogant, selfish, narcissistic, barely-legal-coed chasing frat boy.
He also gives off some sociopath vibes. The dude is messed up.

The SEC doesn't care if Kiffin wins. They just are against NFL player coming back to college. Kiffin just made it obvious he was going to be dirty about it and then mocked them. He brought it on himself and the school. Any school with dignity would have punished him for making them a target.

I wouldn’t go that far. I think they’re just trying to make an example out of someone. Which I also think is stupid as the time for that was a long time ago.

There is obviously more to it but Kiffin hasnt helped the situation. That alone should have made LSU punish him. If he and the players hadn't made LSU the poster child for recruiting NFL players then this wouldn't even be happening. None of the others lsu fans keep mentioning have done this.

The SEC said "ok we need to stop this." The members all agreed, including LSU.
LSU said "oh we'll follow the rules" but kept the two roster spots open for funsies.
The SEC said "we know what you're doing and we're going to pressure you to not do that."
LSU gave in.
