If these opt out trends continue, they’re going to be asking some 4-8 teams
Fingers crossed it keeps going

Tennessee football is my favorite sport by a country mile. I’ll always want us to play in the bowl games if we aren’t in the playoffs

FIFY and maybe that is what you were trying to say?

College football all is going to look a lot different in a few years. Making it a semi pro league was always going to shift the bowl dynamic wildly.

I disagree.
No one school can change things on their own but if enough of them stand up to say we don't like the current state of affairs, let's fix it then something can happen.
The bowl system got out of hand and just about any organization, city, person could start one, hence the bar to go bowling lowered till we had the 6-win level which routinely was crossed for 5-win teams because there weren't enough to go around.
So what if a few of these meaningless bowls fold, bowl games have come and gone before and no one misses them.
My hope is the bowls will have to start treating the participating teams better, do away with requiring schools to eat a large chunk of tickets they can't sell and maybe even cover their expenses so they don't LOSE money to play in someone's precious game.

More than enough to have a championship game
I am not arguing for or against Bama.
However, IMO the Sun Belt Champ at 12-1 is not more deserving than Bama or Oklahoma or Miami.

I think you have to consider, take Auburn for instance. They lost last week and we not “bowl eligible”. Schools is out and everyone went home. I’ll bet that’s what a lot of them are dealing with.

Due to opt-outs by eligible teams Notre Dame, Kansas State and Iowa State, there weren’t enough six-win squads to play all 41 bowl games. Officials from three bowls were forced to turn to programs with 5-7 records.
UCF, Rice and Auburn were invited to a bowl but only Rice accepted to play in the Armed Forces Bowl.
Multiple teams . . . including Florida State, Baylor and Kansas, also dismissed their invites
In addition to Rice, Appalachian State and Mississippi State at 5-7 accepted bowl bids.
