Alabama's starting defensive line has three sacks total (Dareus comes off the bench with 6.5). A 3-4 line isn't suppose to rush the passer. We're built to stop the run, and use our backers and DBs to blitz and rush the QB.

READ it again....it clearly says HIS purpose....and yes HIS purpose is to take on blockers Example: the williams duo from Minn Vikes.

how many people posting in this thread actually know anything about the assignments for a 3-4 defensive line? geez if you dont know just do some reading before posting ignorant stuff.

just look PITT in the NFL. their D line doesnt get many sacks but their LB's rack them up. I honestly think people just post stuff to stir up stupid remarks (which I am the idiot for not already knowing that)

Post the complete stats.

Cody 11 solo tackles 14 assist total 25 tackles
6 tackles for loss 1 pass defended
3 hurries and 2 blocked field goals 0 sacks

Suh 50 solo tackles 32 assist total 82
19.5 tackles for loss 10 passes defended
19 hurries 1 forced fumble 3 blocked punt/fieldgoals 12 sacks

Suh was the best defensive tackle I've seen in a long time, he makes LSU's Dorsey look average and that is an accomplishment.

While Cody is an NT in a 3-4 where he is meant to take up space you are expected to do something from time to time. That said Bama's defense will miss him next year as it will soften them up in the run up the middle, more than they'd like to admit.

I feel so bad for Cody, not matching the stats of Suh, one of the most dominant D Linemen in the last twenty years.

Oh well, I guess he'll just have to settle for being a two time All American, SEC Champion, and possible National Champion. What a wasted career.

you havent been around long, but he is talking about all the other worthless threads from gumps (not this one).

one guy called it irony coming from the bammer( the statement about it being a worthless thread). the bammer asked how it was irony. he told him.

I understand what a 3-4 defensive lineman does, but just b/c he does his job within the scheme of the defense doesn't make him an All-American.

All Americans are the best of the best... not guys who 'take up space' well... not really sure this is debateable.

Because of supply/demand. Look at Tyson Jackson last year, he was not a top-5 caliber pick.. but he happened to play a position with low supply and high demand at the right time.
