Alabama’s historic run of dominance, while fun for Tide fans, put a damper on the excitement for the rest of the SEC and college football in general.

The one comforting thought was that this is merely a Saban phenomenon and some level of parity will be restored when he’s gone. It was an anomaly and not repeatable.

Clemson is a threat to repeat history. With their QB returning, the number 1 recruiting class on the books, and a weak conference, a CFP championship could set up a similar run. That would suck.

OSU or LSU needs to step up and beat them convincingly.

not even remotely close to true.

-For starters, saban is the best coach in cfb history. Dabo aint.
-You ARE correct in that clemson plays a schedule of 12 nobodies so unfortuantely are given a free pass to the playoffs every season which sucks. During bama's run though they were doing it in a much tougher conference, which just shows that those teams were head and shoulders the best team in amercia most years. You can't say the same for clemson
-Here is the important one though. Bama during their run has done it in a ton of different ways. They've done it with a ton of different QBs, some all-timers and some that were simply game managers. How many different bama QBs have won a title during this run, like 6? They've done it with running and defense (most of the run), they've also done it with prolific passing offenses (lately). They've shown they can adapt and win titles in a number of different ways. Clemson on the other hand has won titles on the back of 2 of the best QBs they've had in their history, 1 of which is THE best QB in their history. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying those "don't count" or aren't impressive or anythign like that. I'm simply saying when you've got deshaun and lawrence back to back you should be expected to make the playoffs and win big. The only data we have on dabo without an elite all-timer of a QB in clemson history he has been pretty average tbh. People forget the first SEVEN yeras of his tenure at clemson he averatged like 4 losses per year.

If they win this year it’s 3 out of 4 and will be the favorites to win it next year with Lawrence in his junior year.

Then the following year that #1 recruiting class will be sophomores which includes the #1 pro style QB out of California who is big and almost as highly rated. That class also includes 5 star defensive lineman.

I think that is a threat.

that's a big if, and they aren't winnign this yera. And even if they DO luck up and win, 3 out of 4 is still not really approaching 5 out of 9 that bama did.

debatable, and again them being facored a year in advance has nothing to do with the topic

once again, irrelevant. Lots of people recruit well

sure, clemson is a threat to be a good team if you're playing against them. They aren't a threat to match the greatest dynasty the sport of cfb has ever seen like you're suggesting.

I don’t think we’re that far apart here. I think Bama’s run is historic. The reason I’d like to see Clemson humbled is that it looks like they COULD have an easier path to achieve similar results and their fans would be insufferable.

That’s why I’d like it shut down now.

The playoff format makes it easier for a team like Clemson, who plays in a shite conference, to get repeated shots at winning the whole thing. Bowden and FSU would have been regular playoff participants if the format had existed back in the 90’s, and who knows how many they might have ended up winning? But the voters punished them for their soft schedules and kept them just on the outside looking in most years.

At least Bowden has to play Spurrier every year and the occasional good Miami team. Dabo literally plays no one.

Yeah, Dabo has a straight line to the playoff every single year for the next decade. Nobody else has that kinda schedule set up outside of Oklahoma.

Saban ... WAS

PAST TENSE ... PAST IT ... UNABLE TO RISE TO THE OCCASION

Maybe he oughtta do Viagra and Testex commercials as part of a “comeback regimen”

Snickering wickedly enjoying the idea that Bama was chosen to grace the Halls of the Shitrus Bowl in Orlando with Mickey and Goofy so Bama fans can initiate their 2020 comeback fantasy ...

Oklahoma plays a far stronger schedule than Clemson every single year. Most years they play a top program OOc too UCLA just happened to be terrible at this point

Bama fatigue was real back in the day when Bama was able to win meaningful games. Now that they are in inexorable decline, a lot of that fatigue will shift to Clemson. No other program, including Ohio State is at that dynasty level and won’t have that backlash.
