As AP #1 during the season, to me, is more impressive than FSU’s 14 straight seasons finishing in the Top 4. I say this because; FSU only won 2 national titles. Meanwhile, since only 10 seasons have been completed for Bama going into 2018, Alabama has won 50% of the national titles the last 10 seasons in which they have accomplished a #1 ranking.

Congrats Bama!

Different scenarios, but both impressive.

FSU was nobody before Bowden, while Alabama had not recently been successful was still Alabama.

It’s the best dynasty in the history of the sport, and we aren’t far away (if not already there) from that opinion being immune from debate.

No way. The way you FINISH is far more impressive than being ranked highly at some point during the season when it wasn't deserved.

Don't get me wrong, Bama's run has been super impressive.... and their "down" years would be great for most other programs: #6 finish in 2008... #10 finish in 2010... #7 finish in 2013

But for FSU to FINISH in the AP Top 4 in 14 consecutive seasons is a feat that in my opinion stands alone. Saban has mustered 4 consecutive Top 4 finishes..... if he does it the next 10 years straight, he'll have equaled it. That tells you all you need to know about how impressive that FSU streak was.

Even before Alabama under Saban, I was a huge fan and admirer of Alabama’s success and tradition as it was very much similar to what Oklahoma has achieved. My respect and admiration for them was solidified from my trip to Tuscaloosa in 2003, and again in 2012 when Alabama defeated Michigan in Arlington, TX.

Now I’m just waiting for OU to capitalize on some damn NCs again so they can get back up there with Alabama.

If we are talking strictly about these individual streaks, then I can get behind FSU's streak being more impressive. However, I think Bama finishing with 5 titles in 9 years makes the Bama run more impressive overall

And how many times would FSU have played for a national title if we had the BCS or CFP?

I mean...since 2008, Alabama has finished in the following positions:

2008: #6
2009: #1
2010: #10
2011: #1
2012: #1
2013: #7
2014: #4
2015: #1
2016: #2
2017: #1

While it's not a Top 5 finish every single year, it's not like they've been finishing outside the Top 15. And you also need to look at Florida State's run in its context. At that point in time, the ACC was a joke of a conference. They lost a grand total of two conference games in the 1990s.

Alabama has been making this run of theirs at a time when the strength and prestige of the SEC has been at an all-time high. And, as has been previously stated, Florida State won just two national championships in their impressive 14-year run inside the Top 5. Alabama has won five in the last nine years.

Well they lost 3 ('96, '98, '00) and probably would have made another playoff or two if it existed. Bama has the 5 wins, 2 playoffs exits, and probably would have made it '08 and '13 if the playoff existed.

With the exception of 2007 and 2010, Alabama has been in the running every year for the NC at the end of the year.

I will take 5 National Championships in 10 yrs over top 4 finishes for 14 straight years with 2 Titles.

Easy choice.

100$ agree! You have to be a subjective idiot to not agree. Saban's run is incredible. You cannot have much more success w/o winning every game and every championship. To lose like 12 games (not exactly sure of the numbers) from 2008-2017 is insane. And to win 1/2 of the titles in that period - wow!

Also, Alabama joins OU as the only 2 teams to start as #1 three straight years in a row.

quote:

Alabama will begin its quest for a second consecutive national championship with a rare three-peat.

The preseason AP poll started in 1950 and since then only Oklahoma from 1985-87 had started No. 1 in three straight years until now.
